Is royal mail redirection worth it?

Moving house but only moving around the corner (literally). Royal mail redirection, which we have done for previous moves, is now over £100 for a year.

Is it worth it given we are so close by?

Yes a 12 month redirection is worth it, even if you’ve updated all the obvious organisations with your new address, there may still be a few you’ve forgotten about.
A 12 month redirection should catch any ones that only send you statements once a year.

Also, not setting up a redirection means that you’re relying on the goodwill of the previous owners when it comes to getting your post. There’s nothing to stop them getting fed up and returning everything to the sender.

Personally i would pass mail on for a month out of courtesy then all the rest would be put back in the post box marked as a Gone Away.

It isn't fair on the new owner to be disturbed every few days by you looking for your post.

As makes no difference if you are next door or 100 miles away, people can still get your post plus youre making it difficult for the new owners to collect your post when they’re in / keep all your mail when they’re trying to sort things out.

When I bought my first home I did this as they moved round the corner and it was an absolute p.i.t.a

Yes! Otherwise you’ll be popping round almost weekly to collect your post. We bought from a couple who didn’t do this and it was a PITA!

I don’t think distance matters. All post that came to my address was returned to sender with not known at the address across the front.

Yes please do the redirect. Our sellers moved literally round the corner and did not and post came for years. I’m afraid I started to bin it after the woman came round once to have a pop that we MUST have had a package that she had forgotten to change the address on (we had not). Pissed me right off. Like a PP I would be happy (if politely asked) to do it for a month or so but not on after that.

I think the people you bought your house might get fed up of you popping round.

Even if I liked someone, I’d probably still get fed up with them frequently popping round to pick up post because they’d not bothered to set up a mail redirection.

It's not about not liking, i immediately throw out/send back all correspondence to previous house tenants/owners, so someone could come by every week and get nothing. Like you, i dont care if you would not like that 🤣🤣🤣
