Scotland - naice small town within two hours of Glasgow?

Not sure if I’ve put this in the right section-
seriously considering moving to Scotland- I’ve been wanting to for years, and we now have two DC living there.
just starting to look casually - could anyone recommend an area?
we’d like

• two hours max from Glasgow
• small town with independent shops and cafes and a creative vibe
• lovely scenery

budget around £500k, three bed detached with large garden and views. any ideas? thank you

Try Dunblane or Bridge Of Allan might be your vibe.

You will get a great property for your budget. I recommend either Helensburgh or Gourock if you'd like to be on the Coast. If you'd prefer rural, look about the Stirling, Perth area.

Moffat is a nice place but small

Have to admit the recent heat and drought (south west) has made me consider the move more seriously

I used to live in Moffat. It’s gorgeous. Weather is good. Very welcoming to incomers. Very friendly. Some great restaurants and pubs and a well stocked coop. great for motorway and getting to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle

Dollar (or as mentioned before Bridge of Allan or Dunblane).

Dunelm, Blairgowrie, I quite like Stirling tho not so small.

Kirkcudbright is worth a look as it has a lovely artist community, although on the edge of your 2 hour criteria

Top tip, don't say "up" to Scotland, that's very anglocentric. Just to is fine.

Compared with other areas of Scotland the weather is pretty good.

it’s warmer in the south of Scotland and Moffat is tucked away in a nice valley that shelters it from wind.

I sold my 3 bed bungled 15 years ago so no skin in the game.

I had a pal who lived there and I think he would disagree with you on every point. I visited and I could see his point. He said the weather was actually much worse than much of Scotland: yes it's tucked away in a valley but that gives the clouds no escape route and they do what clouds do: rain.
He sold too and moved away. I was glad not to need to visit again.
Horses for courses, I guess.

Don't know where you are now, OP, but think carefully would be my advice.
Agree with pp that Melrose is nice.

Bridge of Allan/Dunblane as they also have train stations with a regular service to Glasgow

Linlithgow, Biggar.

Linlithgow is lovely. More a town. But lots there. Luss on the shores of Loch Lomond, beautiful and Dunoon.
