Scotland - naice small town within two hours of Glasgow?

Not sure if I’ve put this in the right section-
seriously considering moving to Scotland- I’ve been wanting to for years, and we now have two DC living there.
just starting to look casually - could anyone recommend an area?
we’d like

• two hours max from Glasgow
• small town with independent shops and cafes and a creative vibe
• lovely scenery

budget around £500k, three bed detached with large garden and views. any ideas? thank you

I'll just throw a curve ball in. I've never been there (although looked longingly on RM). Isle of Bute/Rothesay. Ferry to Wemyss Bay (35 mins). Train from Wemyss Bay into Glasgow (1 hour).

Yes most people go up and down the country don't they sometimes I go over to Belfast to visit relatives.

Yes I also go across to family in Norfolk and south wales, and down to Cornwall or Portsmouth. Cos I visualise it on a flat map I guess.

Aberdour and Aberfoyle worth a look, although Aberfoyle would be over 2 hours away.

Family member moved there from Lanarkshire and can easily get to Glasgow in under 2 hours, and without driving which is a bonus. They love it there.

We live on the east coast and agree its drier. Broughty Ferry is nice and has good transport connections. Helensburgh is nice and we considered relocating there. What about Prestwick ?

Also consider Killearn - lovely village with strong community

But do bear in mind that looking at places in August will be quite different to early January.

I’d second this with bells. Even if it doesn’t quite fit the criteria still worth a visit!

Aberfoyle in the trossachs? It’s less than an hour from Glasgow!

I agree it’s lovely though as is Callander and surrounds.

Perthshire & specifically area around warm valley has a sunny micro climate, accessible to Glasgow & Edinburgh & mountains north.

Peebles 100%. I’m just waiting for my kids to finish school, and decide on uni/jobs etc before I start making that move from Lanarkshire.

Another shout for Troon. Largs might be worth a look too, though it gets very busy with trippers in the summer.

You're right about Aberfoyle- I actually meant Aberfeldy although Aberfoyle would be nice too. (Too many places beginning with Aber...)

If you live south of the border, you travel up to Scotland. If you are lucky enough to live in Scotland you travel down to England.

We love going to Scotland and we were lucky enough to live in Ayrshire for 6 months and came home very reluctantly due to the end of a work placement.

My favourite is Helensburgh, lovely little town just stay back from the coastline as storms hit hard. That storm a few years ago caused a lot of damage at the front. Further back is fine.

exactly. It refers to travelling up the map of the uk (ie north). Embarrassing for this poster.
