Anyone else browse Rightmove for fun after moving house? If so, what do you think of this house and its “garden”?

We moved house recently, so I have no intention of doing it again for a long time, if ever. However, I am now addicted to wandering around Rightmove just for entertainment purposes, which is probably a bit sad! Anyway, I have just seen this house for sale and wondered what Mumsnetters would think of it…

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much of the same shade of beige in one place before!

These threads are so mean spirited. You've found someone's home (that they presumably put considerable effort into decorating to their taste) and put it on a forum specifically for people to judge and laugh at. Why?

Yes, I often think people who start these threads should post pictures of their home for us to have a laugh at.

It's better than grey, imo.

Not to my taste but probably would appeal to more than half the world (Middle East, Asia, Far East).
Wonder if the caravans are included! That would be a great teen hang out space.

Anything can be changed apart from being next door to a mechanic/ garage.

Lexy2345 · 29/06/2026 14:44

It's a settled traveller's house and obviously designed to meet their needs. I wouldn't want to live there but someone might. There's a lot of house and a lot of land there for the money.
I don't want to rip the piss out of the traveller lifestyle just because it's different to mine.

Indeed. I'm sure some people's houses on here wouldn't be up to their standards.

The house itself wasn’t really the issue for me, it was just the garden and location. How long would it take to get rid of the gravel?

Not too long. It's not difficult to change it to a lawn, for example. It's a flat space already.

fetchacloth · 29/06/2026 15:00

Too much cream and gold for my taste but looks like you get a lot for your money.
I was more concerned about the surroundings , it looks like the house is on the edge of an industrial estate 😳.

Another Rightmove regular here, and I've gone down the rabbit hole with this one. (In fairness, I do that on a weekly basis.Grin)

I was intrigued by there being two conservatories at that back, it made me think it had been two houses originally , and indeed it had - all the way up to Oct-24. Stepping through past pictures, my guess would be the left-hand house was bought in 2018 (when the big wall and gates were built) and when the right-hand house came up (after Oct-24) they bought that too and remodelled them into one. All the land at the back looks to me to belong to the left-hand, so that could all date from 2018.

Which leads me to the thought - they've put a hell of a lot of work and money into this property in just the last two years, tailored it to their personal lifestyle/taste - and now they're selling? After all that work? That's quite sad to me.

Very niche market for a (expensive) travellers site

Skybluepinky · 29/06/2026 15:26

I can guess who lived there, as there are houses styled like that where I live, furniture shops in that area also selling those furnishings. I would guess you aren’t who they are aiming to sell to.

IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth · 29/06/2026 15:31

I hate it when you look for properties with a garden and up comes something like that, or something that is all concrete or slabs.

No. Those are yards. A garden has either grass and/or plants in borders.

MajorProcrastination · 29/06/2026 15:35

The house decor is absolutely not to my taste and the garden? grounds? surrounding land? looks like a car park. But I'd guess that's what was most useful and attractive to the people who lived there previously.

TidyOchreDeer · 29/06/2026 16:02

Awful. I thought it couldn't get any worse and then I got to the 'garden' pictures, what is with the vast expanse of grey gravel and nothingness?! Looks like a derelict car park. Depressing

TheNoonBell · 29/06/2026 16:03

What a location on a main road between a car repair place and a hand car wash.

HortiGal · 29/06/2026 16:06

Definetely looks like it’s a travellers home, the yard and style. Bit demure compared the the ones in Morecambe.

LoafofSellotape · 29/06/2026 16:07

The pillow placement is very strange 🤣

Abouteffingtime · 29/06/2026 16:07

Its hideous inside and out. Looks set to be a travellers site, which would make sense of the decor

Icecreamandcoffee · 29/06/2026 16:09

It is very in line with its target market. Very traveller chic with a large garden which is all hard standing for when your extended friends and family come to visit for a month or so. Bonus points, on industrial estate so lots of extra on road parking.

godmum56 · 29/06/2026 16:11

well that's .......strange.

JMSA · 29/06/2026 14:03

It’s not to my taste at all, but then I’m not in the business of poking fun at other people or their homes.
Well-done you for making the snobs’ day.

So why did you open the thread?

then say it's not to your taste. If you want to think you're a better person, then BE a better person.

@GurlWithACurl

I really hope it's not your new house because I don't have a single nice thing to say about it. 😵‍💫

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/06/2026 16:13

I loved the oh so casually displayed Fortnum and Mason hamper and shopping bags! “These? I totally forgot they were there!”

Pistacheeo · 29/06/2026 16:17

It needs grass. Loads of grass. And fewer cushions. It makes me feel dusty just looking at it.

That gravel car park would have been a miserable heat trap last week.

They're nice though! Could be repurposed.
