Leaving a note for the buyers of our house when we move?

Have you done this when you have moved?

I think I am going to leave them a note with some useful info on for them. So far I have got:

The codes for the outbuilding locks
How to read the gas and tell if you need to order more (we are on LPG)
Who our gas supplier is
Who services our boiler
Who cuts our hedges (they expressed an interest in getting this done also)
Who our window cleaner is (although we will cancel him before we leave)
When bin day is

Is there anything else you would include/have included if you have done the same for your buyer?

Anything else you would do/leave before you go?

You pay for the Royal Mail forwarding service?

that doesn't always work. Ask me how I know.

The alarm instructions. Just the number isn't enough. Even better get it fixed or disconnected.

I left tea bags, coffee, two mugs that I had no use of and a pint of milk and packet of biscuits!

my vendor left me a bottle of wine and a bottle of alcohol free fizz

Mine left me bare wiring, a dirty freezer, a damaged wall, an alarm that doesn't work and goes off randomly, over grown garden and a filthy house.

Loved the note our sellers left for us. Ended with 'we hope you are as happy here as we were',
18 years later safe to say we are!

I usually do this too. In my current house the previous owners left a useful similar list. What I wish they'd also left was a list of all the plants and trees in the garden, they were amazing gardeners and there are lots of unusual varieties, I'd have loved a list.

There's an app that tells you plant names. Seek. Flora.

As an avid gardener, most of those apps are useless on varieties
and even more useless in winter when herbaceous stuff is below ground

eg "that bare bit of soil has triliums and goldenrod and alliums in the summer"

Agree. I've lost so much as it said they were weeds and I'm not experienced enough to know or remember everything I've planted as have a none existent memory.

these plus an acrylic pen are a plant life saver. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134238957329?var=433691081149

Where the Dr surgery is and their phone number. Years ago the day after we moved to a village my 3yr old fell and split his head open, Luckily we had bought the house from a district nurse who had left the surgery rel no. I called and was told to come right along, stiched there and then saving a 70 mile round trip to the nearest hospital. Also who your electricty is with, remember to take a final reading, oil company, gas etc.

Yes, as well as the practical stuff, I’ve always written something sentimental too. Like wishing them happy memories in the house and left them a little gift. When we moved in covid it was Easter egg for their child, a little bottle of bubbly and a hand sanitiser.

I’m a big believer in saying a verbal thank you out-loud to the house too.

I do this on holiday when leaving accommodation. When we sell a car I thank it for keeping us safe.

I know I’m sentimental but it just feels like a sense of completion to me.

Edited

That is all lovely littlere, l will say goodbye to someone who passed away whilst we lived here, not in the house, but this is last place l saw them alive, so l will feel l am leaving them behind in a sense and will tell them l am leaving and ask them to come with me . Yes l am very sentimental too.
Also to add to the OP l will also leave recommendations and contacts of any ( good obv.) local tradesmen we have used.

I say goodbye to a house when I move out.

Now you mention it, I also do it to the houses of people who've passed away, if possible.

We left a thorough 'essay' which they clearly didn't even look at as kept messaging us with questions 😤
