Leaving a note for the buyers of our house when we move?

Have you done this when you have moved?

I think I am going to leave them a note with some useful info on for them. So far I have got:

The codes for the outbuilding locks
How to read the gas and tell if you need to order more (we are on LPG)
Who our gas supplier is
Who services our boiler
Who cuts our hedges (they expressed an interest in getting this done also)
Who our window cleaner is (although we will cancel him before we leave)
When bin day is

Is there anything else you would include/have included if you have done the same for your buyer?

Anything else you would do/leave before you go?

If you don't leave your details, what happens to the letter telling you about your hospital appointment, or the cheque from your relative?

You should organise for your post to be forwarded

I haven't got a fude. Is it useful?

Very, especially on a Wednesday.

I keep an ongoing "house manual" with anything relevant,

trade contacts,
Paint colours/codes,

Carpets, Tiling, flooring
Key security numbers (i.e. Banham require them top make copies)
Smart Home account details, or transfer them (e.g. Hive heating)
Label and switches or sockets that aren't obvious.

I would remove any irrelevant info before sharing it with the buyer.

I'd buy a hope you are happy in your new home card and write information inside.

Ours left a long description of the pond, how nic3 the neighbours are, how much they’d loved the house. It was great.we left a bottle of wine the thermostat o instructions and woodburner instructions. Still got a few queries afterwards.

Chimney sweep and last bill
Cess pit / septic tank empty schedule and last bill
Oil supplier and last bill and usual schedule

Most have been mentioned already - and I think the majority are basic courtesy and should be done as standard! I’ve also always left a card and a bottle of wine wishing them health & happiness.

List of the neighbours names. We were delighted to have it. My SIL was calling her neighbour the wrong name for years when she misheard the name the first time they met. He never correct her.

I wrote tons! Left all the manuals, receipts for the kitchen, bathroom and other work we had done, details of the heating, stopcock, meters, the street WhatsApp group, the hedgehog who lives under the garden shed, the bin days, spare lightbulbs for all the light fittings, a box of the tiles in the kitchen and a box of the lvt flooring used throughout, the oil for the worktops, the special cleaner for the range cooker, the tile sealant etc etc plus a gift voucher for the lovely bakery at the bottom of the road. They had been a pleasure to deal with throughout and we wanted them to be happy. I had checked through the agent that it was okay to leave those things and they told me after they'd felt really welcomed. (And I saw them the other day and they are very happy there)

Ours left a filthy house, several weeks of dog shit from 2 x Labrador's all over the garden and a bag of sex toys/outfits in the attic.
He was an executive at our local council too 🤢 often see him in the newspaper.
Our gorgeous new neighbour came round with cleaning equipment and offered to help as she knew it would be bad.

The last time we moved these were questions on the Fittings and Contents form.

Moved house a few times Aswell as all the boring stuff, l left a bottle of wine, bunch of flowers box of chocolates and a card, saying we hope they would be as happy in the house as we were. Gutted to move, l loved that house, but due to work circumstances had no choice

That is so funny.
Not!

A couple of years ago someone was telling me about something similar and it turned out seller and buyer worked for the same company, but completely different departments.

The house was left in a right state, again with the dog shit and just a dirty house.
Like the minute it was sold they stopped doing anything for about 3 months.

Anyway, by chance talking about it in the office one of her colleague realises it is the house of someone else in another department that they know.

The photos do the rounds and are the subject of gossip.

Of course it gets back and the person is absolutely mortified, especially when they learned there was a whole set of photos.

It's such a mean dirty thing to do. It really would make you think very differently about someone to know they would leave a house in suchba state.

Really low class thing to do.
She passed those photos around and didn't care who saw them.

Dog shit is even more disgusting when you don't have a dog yourself and there had been no sign of it during viewings.

I would definitely insist on a last minute walk around before closing if I bought again.

Too many stories of people being caught out when they don't.
Wrongly depending on people being decent.

You pay for the Royal Mail forwarding service?

Ah, you live in a country where it never runs out, and never goes wrong.
