i laughed that the OP was being scolded which is de rigueur on here. You decided that I was laughing at the elderly being unable to use the stairs.

Unless there’s an opportunity to feel superior to someone, the thread is deathly quiet.

The whole thread was designed to feel superior about someone who put a toilet in their living area. It was designed to laugh at it and the owner.

I was referring to the new inhabitants, not the old.

So me having to piss in the living room doesn’t matter to you. Nice.

Its fairly obvious looking at the upstairs condition that the downstairs was used as a single living area, probably for someone elderly

Sensible arrangement

Not for laughing at.

Yes I was just about to say that. They've been living downstairs. My great grandma had the same kind of arrangement in her house.

I hope this gets deleted

I hope it doesnt, to show how ridiculous the OP is and other people who dont understand disabilities.

Surely a commode is a more usual option than installing a proper loo! And sink!

Where would you empty the commode though and wash your hands?

Walk up 2 flights of stairs, empty and clean commode. Walk down 2 flights of stairs, put commode chair and pan back together. Walk up 2 flights of stairs, wash hands, back down again etc etc. If it was someone with MS who needs to pee every half an hour due to false nerve signals that's not going to work.

What a sad story told by this listing. The need for a downstairs loo and basin, the greenhouse that was probably once very much loved, and the birdbath in the garden.

Lovely compassionate words.

And presumably did so because they were unable to use the stairs, but wanted to remain in their home for as long as possible. Imagine being someone who was so lacking in emotional intelligence that they found that funny.

I hope this thread is deleted too.

I'm more horrified by "lounge"

Same!

I imagine it was a bedroom/ bathroom area. Though strange it doesn’t have a walk in shower.
It would be for an elderly or immobile person, pretty obvious really. Obviously it can be removed.
I find it odd the loo and sink are so far apart, surely could’ve been closer and built around? What do I know!

If the person needed a hoist to lift them onto the loo extra space would make it much easier.

likelysuspect · Yesterday 19:44

Yes also if they have a hospital bed, they're massive and need a lot of room round them

Gold star in the post to you.

Why are you being so rude? Admitting you made a crass comment would do you more credit, EABT.

ThatsNicer · Yesterday 19:52

Nice garden.
The garden and the decorating downstairs seems good quality.

sassyduck · Yesterday 19:52

OP, you are a nasty thoughtless person. Shame on you.

Ah so "not many people fancy having a piss whilst eating their dinner" wasn't you laughing at the situation was it? Taking the piss, as it were?

This is why I was trying to explain to you why it isn't always the case that people take the adaptations out before selling but you clearly couldn't be arsed to read that bit of my post.

I'm surprised that they didn't create a small, proper downstairs toilet by shifting the internal wall that boxes in the stairs

If it’s being done by the social work they only fund the cheapest option

Disabled people can't do small toilets ...they need equipment to get there ..to use it etc.

Lonelycrab · Yesterday 20:32

Tbh although I can understand that obvs those with disabilities need a different setup, judging by the overall not too bad condition of the place; it would be far more saleable if those things were simply capped off and removed. It’s not expensive.

So the seller has missed a trick here imo. No one obvs wants a toilet in that position

UniDaysAcoming · Yesterday 20:45

WTAF? It's even on the floor plan!

Well, it's handy. Pipes are all there. The kitchen extension could be redone and a utility and toilet built on the other side of that wall.

It's sad that it was needed but useful information never the less.

MissDemelzaCarne · Yesterday 20:48

What a practical way to keep someone in their home. I wish I had enough space to put one in our second reception room for DH.

NoisyMonster678 · Yesterday 20:57

Woah.............Right next to a window and sound proofing would be essential because of the hard floor.

Hahahah

I am presuming most people would get builders in to errect walls for privacy.

andnowwhatdowedo · Yesterday 21:01

Whoever put the house on the market could have put up a cheap stud wall around the downstairs facilities. Then it would have made the house layout more desirable, rather than puzzling or depressing.

If social services or similar has funded it due to disability they won’t fund adding all the walls etc.

One of my dhs family had a toilet and sink added to the downstairs room like this, he became a wheelchair user and the lack of walls and door meant it was much more accessible for him and the hard floor was easier to move around on. He had more things to worry about than sound travelling tbf.
