How bizarre

Evilkineavel · Yesterday 18:19

That’s what is done for elderly people who need a downstairs loo by social services sometimes

I wouldn’t be pointing and laughing. It’s undignified and sad.

MeltyMomenrs · Yesterday 18:21

WTAF? It's even on the floor plan!

Surely a commode is a more usual option than installing a proper loo! And sink!

Not if they don’t need carers.

Motnight · Yesterday 18:24

Blimey!

Bjorkdidit · Yesterday 18:29

It's not in the lounge, it's in the dining area. It says so, in a remarkably matter of fact sort of way, in the description.

But I agree with @Evilkineavel it will have been done by necessity, not fun, and the fact that the house is being sold with no chain, suggests that the owner has now passed away, or gone into long term care.

PickAChew · Yesterday 18:30

The only other loo is 2 floors up, without it. A lot of elderly people end up living entirely on one floor and I can't see how else this could have been made possible.

Exactly. It’s horrible to point it out this way.

likelysuspect · Yesterday 18:31

Its fairly obvious looking at the upstairs condition that the downstairs was used as a single living area, probably for someone elderly

Sensible arrangement

Not for laughing at.

HaroldMeaker · Yesterday 18:33

It’s obviously someone who was living downstairs and this was a budget way to enable it. No need for all the incredulity.

Weldove · Yesterday 18:35

What a sad story told by this listing. The need for a downstairs loo and basin, the greenhouse that was probably once very much loved, and the birdbath in the garden.

parietal · Yesterday 18:36

if it was furnished with a screen / big solid bookcase around for privacy, and the lounge is mainly used as a bedroom, then it is a practical solution for someone who can't manage 2 flights of narrow stairs.

Chlorpool · Yesterday 18:37

The toilet may have originally had a screen for privacy.
I hope the person it was fitted for was able to live in their home longer as a result.

Not really when you think about it? Given its coming off the kitchen its the closest water source. I would assume, if it were still inhabited, there would be a screen?

CombatBarbie · Yesterday 18:41

I have a toilet in my Harry Potter bar..... it holds all the card games and yes I have had to stop people at parties thinking it was functional 🤣

likelysuspect · Yesterday 18:41

Its certainly what we'll be doing when we're older, we have a long utility room that I would put a bathroom in once we cant make it up the stairs, and use the living room as the bedroom. No need to move into a bungalow which would costs a lot more than this house.

Geneticsbunny · Yesterday 18:41

The irony is that you wouldnt be able to take it out because you are no longer allowed to remove downstairs loos if there has been one at some point. Its a building regs thing to make houses more accesaible. Obviously you could remove it but would have to reinstall if you sold it. Maybe thats what happened here?

Notquitethetruth · Yesterday 18:42

Inspirational adjustments to enable someone to remain in their home.
Some are too quick to.judge

CombatBarbie · Yesterday 18:42

I suspect the compassionate replies are not what the OP hoped 🤣🤣

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Yesterday 18:42

I love the way the OP is getting scolded 🤣🙈

It is unusual and the OP pointed that out. Even if everything that has been said is true it is unusual not to bring the house up to a normal living situation no? Not many people fancy having a piss whilst eating their dinner.

You can remove it because it was an adaptation. Not an installation as such

I saw the title and immediately knew what the situation was before even looking at the listing.

Its obvious

If you know anything at all about people.

It’s exceedingly obvious. I didn’t even look at
the photos
