It’s obviously someone who was living downstairs and this was a budget way to enable it. No need for all the incredulity.

Exactly. I hope they were still able to get into their garden. It looks as though it was well loved.

Glitchymn1 · Yesterday 18:46

I imagine it was a bedroom/ bathroom area. Though strange it doesn’t have a walk in shower.
It would be for an elderly or immobile person, pretty obvious really. Obviously it can be removed.
I find it odd the loo and sink are so far apart, surely could’ve been closer and built around? What do I know!

sonjadog · Yesterday 18:46

I wouldn't have thought that about the toilet and sink, but now you mention it, it makes sense that it is there. Sometimes MN can be educational. The garden looks like it has been so loved and well-tended. Someone has spent many happy hours there. I hope the new owners take care of it too.

Evilkineavel · Yesterday 18:47

I’m sure the person would rather not have been having a piss in the living room.

this thread is horrible.

EllaPaella · Yesterday 18:48

It’s obvious that it’s there because the previous occupant couldn’t manage stairs. Why would anyone think anything else?
It’ll be easy enough to get rid of and actually if the plumbing is there then someone looking to perhaps convert the house into flats might appreciate it.

TemperanceWest · Yesterday 18:50

@MontgomeryClift would you consider asking mnhq to take the thread down? I am sure the person who lived in the house and needed that adjustment made would be upset at it being made fun of.

SirChenjins · Yesterday 18:53

Vile thread. I hope neither you nor your relatives ever need this kind of support with daily living OP. It's probably been a much loved family home and you're posting it to make fun of someone. Horrible.

TemperanceWest · Yesterday 18:57

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Yesterday 18:42

I love the way the OP is getting scolded 🤣🙈

It is unusual and the OP pointed that out. Even if everything that has been said is true it is unusual not to bring the house up to a normal living situation no? Not many people fancy having a piss whilst eating their dinner.

I doubt the occupant had it put in so they could have "a piss whilst eating their dinner". Your ableism is excruciating.

Branwellgirl · Yesterday 18:58

Geneticsbunny · Yesterday 18:41

The irony is that you wouldnt be able to take it out because you are no longer allowed to remove downstairs loos if there has been one at some point. Its a building regs thing to make houses more accesaible. Obviously you could remove it but would have to reinstall if you sold it. Maybe thats what happened here?

I’m not sure that’s been done to regs to start with.

I’ve already asked.

Maybe delete the post, OP.

When I was in this situation and the house was having to be sold to fund a care home there were simply not enough liquid assets to start pissing about trying to alter the house back to how it was before the adaptations, that's LITERALLY why the house was having to be sold.

I hope you feel good about yourself laughing away about somebody's elderly and disabled relative who is now presumably either dead or in a care home.

Branwellgirl · Yesterday 19:03

Actually looks as though it may have been sectioned off at the archway - the bed may have been in with the sanitary ware and the other side of the archway used as a sitting/ living area? Clearly well thought out and beautifully done; nice flooring and walls.
OP obviously hasn’t had to deal with the elderly and infirm in her/his life yet. That’s been a lovely adaptation for someone to enable them to stay at home.

Toddlerteaplease · Yesterday 19:23

I thought there has to be a door between a living area and toilet.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · Yesterday 19:26

I'm more horrified by "lounge"

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Yesterday 19:26

likelysuspect · Yesterday 18:43

I saw the title and immediately knew what the situation was before even looking at the listing.

Its obvious

If you know anything at all about people.

Don’t be so ridiculously sanctimonious.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Yesterday 19:27

Evilkineavel · Yesterday 18:44

It’s exceedingly obvious. I didn’t even look at
the photos

Gold star in the post to you.

Poppy61 · Yesterday 19:28

Evilkineavel · Yesterday 18:19

That’s what is done for elderly people who need a downstairs loo by social services sometimes

I wouldn’t be pointing and laughing. It’s undignified and sad.

I agree. You can see it's been set up as a bedroom and a bathroom. Have a heart people.

Simonjt · Yesterday 19:30

A friend has this set up, he needs the use of a winch so he needs a lot of room around his toilet. It was also very handed when I visited when our son was toilet training.

i laughed that the OP was being scolded which is de rigueur on here. You decided that I was laughing at the elderly being unable to use the stairs.

Unless there’s an opportunity to feel superior to someone, the thread is deathly quiet.

KnittyKnotty · Yesterday 19:31

Someone lived thete with a severe disability for so long it was worth plumbing a toilet in to a room which also has plenty room for hoists and other medical equipment.

Evilkineavel · Yesterday 19:32

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Yesterday 19:27

Gold star in the post to you.

I will need a downstairs loo at some point. I expect to be offered that.

my stairs won’t take a lift.
but thanks for the gold star.

MidnightPatrol · Yesterday 19:33

Agree this seems ok for a single inhabitant who can no longer manage the stairs - nowhere else to put it!

Much nicer than a commode.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Yesterday 19:33

TemperanceWest · Yesterday 18:57

I was referring to the new inhabitants, not the old.

I hope this gets deleted
