What sort of size? And is this a family bathroom or more an "adult" ensuite? And low/mid or splurgy budget?

Itsokaytomorrowisanewday · 07/03/2026 20:27

What do you like and what’s your budget.
We have just had our bathrooms done ( they are not painted yet) and I’m very pleased with them . But they are simple designs and don’t look like instagram bathrooms.
We based them on this small bathroom in the shop we used. So our floor tiles are wood effect. My dh didn’t like the small patterned tiles so we have textured stone coloured tiles behind the shower in 1 room, with plain tiles in the same colour on 2 other walls. The unit under the sink is in duck egg blue. We have similar in the main bathroom except with a wood effect large tile behind the shower.
But it’s plain and not glamorous. So it depends what you like

My bathroom is bold and beautiful!

Ca’Pietra Mermaid’s Garden on the floor, it’s a statement!
Ca’Pietra Maldives up to halfway on the wall and full height in the shower.
White suite with separate corner shower and rolltop bath. Burlington gold hardware for taps etc.

Then I have a statement sink- it’s a white unit but above it I’ve got pink metro tiles in a herringbone with a circular gold mirror.

I absolutely love it- this was the floor and walls mid fit!

Thank you for showing me this. I have been looking at some onyx tiles online which are similar to yours, but wasn’t sure whether the would be too much in a small room. They look lovely though

One thing to be aware of is labour cost re hexagonal/ herringbone tiles, especially on walls, as it takes longer to do so will cost more.

Brightlittlecanary · 07/03/2026 21:27

I don’t wish to post my bathroom but I have these, on the walls to ceiling and the floor, it’s really lovely. The sink, loo, bath is all white.

id advise get loads of samples and also be brave, everyone sort of looked at me askance when I said these ones, and ever single person who walks in there says wow. It also looks really luxurious and expensive.

Oh those are super nice! Thinking they might work for my son's bathroom.

Itsokaytomorrowisanewday · 07/03/2026 21:43

I really want to be brave but it’s so much money and scared of getting something which will date quickly or I actually don’t like once it’s fitted

OP posts:

The company who did ours had a specialist tiler who did all the funky patterns with absolute precision.

If you go bold, you need to love it- we had about 6 months between booking and fitting and I never wavered! We got the idea from the dark green from a fancy hotel we stayed in that made us both go “I want a bathroom to feel like this” so that was a good source of inspiration!

I think everything suggested is timeless, but it’s important to get something you love rather than follow fashion, that’s whay we did.

you need to get samples, but if you’re not brave you will end up with a bog standard metro tile white, with a pop of colour somewhere, which is fine, but not luxurious or wow. Depends on what you want.

Ca'Pietra tiles are amazing.

We've done 2 bathrooms in the past year and have used their tiles in both.

Ensuite: (bit of a dark and dingy room)
Medina tiles in Salvia in one - mix of Hexagons and brick (laid vertically).
LVT in a sandstone finish
Little Greene paint for the walls in Joanna
Vanity unit is dark oak which we've picked up on the windowsill and a shelf.
Natural linen blind. Big aspidistra plant.

Family bathroom: (very light and bright room)
Ca'Pietra Oasis brick tiles in green
White walls and ceiling
LVT flooring in a coolish oak finish - also some oak shelves.
Loads of plants.

We've just renovated a derelict property and had multiple bathrooms/en-suites to do. I'm FAR from any expert, designer or colour expert! We aren't fully finished but things I'd do/recommend (not at home this weekend so can't take pics right now):

-Wall paint is cheaper to change than tiles if you don't like the colours or need a change in a few years
-Free standing baths can be a PITA to clean and have no where to put the shampoo/soap etc. Great for magazine pics but that's about all!
-We went to several high bathrooms and tile shops. We ended up using an independent one nearly. They came out a measured, let us take tiles home to see against different light and were so helpful in advising on things we'd never considered.
-They recommended a brilliant tiler. He said that many cheaper tiles from say topps tiles, B&Q etc are not only not square, but also not flat. Plus the breakage rate is more apparently.
-Large tiles make the room appear larger, less grout and easier to clean
-We got comfort height seats in all bathrooms which I love. They look like a normal seat but those few cm's make all the difference to my knees. I'm only ing my 40's but sitting on a lower, 'normal' seat now feels almost like squatting. You can get a squatting potty if need to raise your feet or have kids
-Get cabinets with drawers like the pic posted up thread. We only had these in 1 en-suite and really regret it!

Davros · 07/03/2026 22:47

We have just done this (not quite finished). No grey, no panels
