I have followed these threads from afar but finally have one of my own Grin
This is a new house being built somewhere I drive past on a regular basis. It is completely out of keeping with the other houses along the road and just looks strange. What do you think? Am I a dinosaur as I like my houses to look like houses or is this they way designs are going?

It will be very small inside. Those are cgi photo's and the listing says land between 40 and 42. If you look at the street view and satalite images it's being squeezed into a tiny little plot.

Better to squeeze housing into all tiny plots than to dig up the countryside.
It will provide a home for someone.

I love this house - I like ultra modern houses and Victorian/edwardian houses. What I hate with a passion are lovely older houses which have been butchered with the whole ground floor made into an open plan monstrosity. I’ve always tried to respect older hkuses we’ve lived in and renovated them sympathetically in keeping with their period.

Spot on!

Loathe it
Too many windows
odd shaped rooms
small kitchen
lounge on second floor
small bedrooms

How sad
and to remove the trees aswell is an utter disgrace
Not only are they excellent for wellbeing they soak up carbon monoxide and dioxide. The loss of them and addition of more housing increases the toxins in our air.
Then of course trees help to prevent flooding.

Hedgerows as well as trees provide habitats and food for wildlife. It’s no wonder numbers have plummeted

When will this country ever learn !

To add insult to injury, the development is in a river valley and right next to the flood plain. Our village has made the national news more than once over the last few years because of flooding. It beggars belief, it really does.

Loathe it-outside and inside.

itsgettingweird · 10/02/2026 15:15

Doesn’t bother me from the outside.

but I don’t like the layout and it’s tiny in the grand scheme of things with odd shaped rooms.

SidekickSylvia · 10/02/2026 18:56

Loathe it, no redeeming features whatsoever, neither outside or inside. Just completely joyless from top to bottom.

FasterMichelin · 10/02/2026 21:38

Loathe it. Awful floor plan. The “living room” is the upstairs landing. Very expensive for such a small and awkward house.

GoGoSuperBug · 11/02/2026 08:00

It’s a bit fur coat no knickers.
