Love it or loathe it?

I have followed these threads from afar but finally have one of my own Grin
This is a new house being built somewhere I drive past on a regular basis. It is completely out of keeping with the other houses along the road and just looks strange. What do you think? Am I a dinosaur as I like my houses to look like houses or is this they way designs are going?

Ha! I know the road. I’m not far away. I think, on street view, it replacing an Edwardian semi? As it’s not a conservation area, design doesn’t have to match existing. I think it needs a more secluded spot but it’s going to appeal to someone. Probably cheap to run.

Loathe it, personally. It’s a shame it’s so grey.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 02/02/2026 14:24

It has no kerb appeal to me from the outside, at all.

Notdanishsusan · 02/02/2026 14:25

Like the outside. Dislike the decor - esp the kitchen.

Tonissister · 02/02/2026 14:29

It's a really bland version of the kind of modernism that was radical in 1960s and 70s, mixed with the currently very unfashionable zest for grey, grey and more grey.
It looks fairly new and yet the design is old fashioned - tiny kitchen for whoever cooks can't socialise. And I hate double height entrance halls. They are pompous wastes of space.

Seawolves · 02/02/2026 14:32

It looks very squished in to the space it occupies.

StylishAndBeautiful · 02/02/2026 14:34

I'd need to see it. I don't dislike it or like it, and the layout wouldn't suit everyone.

It looks like a 'grand designs property' on a 'not grand' scale.

Fifiesta · 02/02/2026 14:35

I really don’t get ‘the wooden shed’ next to it.
If the design shtick is to make a statement, why the miss matched shed?
It also looks as if it’s been shoe-horned in to too-small a plot…

7238SM · 02/02/2026 14:36

It looks to be shoe horned onto the plot and I hate the unusual angles. Getting furniture to fit would be a PITA. I don't mind a modern look and something different, but I hate the grey also. The floor plan has no measurements but the kitchen and nearly all the rooms look very small.

TeflonMom · 02/02/2026 14:39

Unusual layout and odd shaped rooms. It’s been squashed into the plot. Probably too small to appeal to a family. The target market might be a young couple buying their first home. Doesn’t look like there’s much of a back garden. The grey interior is a bit bland but they probably wanted to present it as a blank canvas. It wouldn’t be for me

Awaybore · 02/02/2026 14:47

I hate it, but can someone tell me, is that supposed to be a TV above the hob. If not what is it?

It's a modern extractor but agree, they're horrible.

Starlight1979 · 02/02/2026 15:01

Loathe it. Both inside and out. Also it looks really tiny and cramped for the price!

NarwhalBuddy · 02/02/2026 15:02

It looks like a generic Pinterest house tbh

LibertyLily · 02/02/2026 15:06

Loathe it. I hate the weird shaped rooms, none of which seem a decent size (although impossible to tell as no room dimensions provided) and it sticks out like the proverbial sore thumb in the street scene, imo.

The dismal grey interior can easily be dealt with.

I'm not against 'grand designs' type contemporary builds (although I prefer period properties personally), but think they work best in secluded, leafy locations where they're not clashing stylistically with the existing vernacular buildings.

Squirrelchops1 · 02/02/2026 15:18

Well, it's trying to use a plot differently! Makes a change from the boring wood clad, grey windows added to standard houses that are popping up everywhere and the height of meh.

Sidge · 02/02/2026 15:36

Well the images are just AI rendering of a proposed property. Thats not what it actually looks like (it’s not finished yet by the looks of it) so you could have some input to the kitchen, bathrooms and decor.

Having said that it’s very small, very expensive and the layout is rubbish.

Flowersbloominwinter · 02/02/2026 15:38

Dull as dirty dish water. Soulless and uninspiring.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 02/02/2026 15:59

The sitting room is a sofa and TV on the landing

I see houses like this frequently.
Have done for years.

Mumblechum0 · 02/02/2026 16:05

It makes me want to slit my wrists. Utterly soulless and depressing, and that's a busy road.

They are AI images.

sittingonabeach · 02/02/2026 16:10

The details say the fittings can be discussed with developer so images are not real
