I have followed these threads from afar but finally have one of my own Grin
This is a new house being built somewhere I drive past on a regular basis. It is completely out of keeping with the other houses along the road and just looks strange. What do you think? Am I a dinosaur as I like my houses to look like houses or is this they way designs are going?

It should have been a two bed. Too small for three.

Yes but the images are AI - if you read the blurb it says -

The property accommodation shall comprise of the following, on the ground floor you shall find a good sized modern open plan kitchen / dining area with Bi-Fold doors opening to the courtyard garden. There is also a downstairs WC.

Upstairs, a good sized living room with study, two good sized bedrooms both with built in wardrobes and a modern family bathroom.

The developer is open to discussions about the interior finish and happy for any buyers to decide on potential kitchens, flooring & decor.

So I imagine it will look something like the external AI image on completion of the build, but the interior is largely a blank canvas.

I really don’t get ‘the wooden shed’ next to it.
If the design shtick is to make a statement, why the miss matched shed?
It also looks as if it’s been shoe-horned in to too-small a plot…

I think someone 'developed' in their garden and the shed is the neighbours.
Awful, ugly and lacks imagination.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 02/02/2026 16:29

Awful house but this is how all individual new builds seem to be going .
Unfortunately 😕

schoolfriend · 02/02/2026 16:29

It's tiny! 957 sq ft

PrincessFluffyPants · 02/02/2026 16:32

I don't mind the exterior/shell but all the windows make me anxious!? I couldn't live there and relax; it's the same with the modern Omaze-type houses that are sometimes promoted, so many large windows and very little privacy.

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/02/2026 16:33

The bedrooms and bathroom are all off the lounge area, so basically your lounge is a hallway with a sofa. That alone would be a no from me.

CoastalCalm · 02/02/2026 16:35

Dislike the angles in the rooms and surprised to see such a boring kitchen set up

myheadsjustmush · 02/02/2026 17:02

OMG that is awful.

The entire design of the property looks like is has been cropped to within an inch of it's life to fit in that really small space. The drive looks only big enough for a pedal car, and the angles of the walls inside are just....well..... 🤨

CanadianJohn2 · 02/02/2026 17:08

I am surprised the UK house listings don't include the size of the land. In this part of the world, that information is always included. In the case of this house, it is important information.

tapdancingmum · 02/02/2026 21:23

After doing a little bit of digging and searching google earth it looks like this house is being built in the garden of the white house you can see to the right which explains why there is no room for a garden or a normal designed house.

What is the point of those weird angles? And id feel very exposed either way the front having so much glazing. Not for me.

SophiaSW1 · 02/02/2026 22:08

I didn’t mind the exterior but the weird angles are annoying.

Raspberrymoon49 · 02/02/2026 22:10

Soulless grey box, no character, so many like this, sad that there was originally an Edwardian house on the site which was probably lovely

Saz12 · 02/02/2026 22:40

They've tried to put too much house into a v small plot.

Rooms seem like they'd be tiny and awkward, with v limited storage. Also, the living room is really an upstairs landing - crap if you dont all go to bed at the same time. I'd be skeptical of how usable the parking spot is - it looks like it's both narrow and short. So difficult if you have shopping in the boot & anyone sitting on the passenger side.

IMO the living area doesn't support the number of bedrooms. Maybe if you were seldom home it'd work!

Mumblechum0 · 02/02/2026 22:52

Looking at the floor plan, if you need the loo after you go to bed, you have to go through the living room 😨

Maybe as an Airbnb for a weekend it would be ok, but it isn’t really workable as a full time home

sharkstale · 02/02/2026 23:12

I like the dining area and the bathroom, the rest is awful.

Prettyflowerstoo · 02/02/2026 23:18

amazed they got planning permission . Rooms will be even smaller because you will lose space in the angles, it must be like living in a goldfish bowl downstairs. I suppose they have seen the tiny cupboards that were often on the London news being sold as studio flats in London and thought it better.

DrPrunesqualer · 03/02/2026 02:29

The materials and geometry are the same as the house next door.

I like it

OP…what is a normal house anyway. ?

GreaterCassowary · 04/02/2026 18:38

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/02/2026 16:33

Agreed. The layout is absolutely awful.

DeathBanana · 07/02/2026 08:04

It’s design shouts that it was led by constraints and compromises rather than any kind of vision or function or form.

CeciliaMars · 07/02/2026 10:32

Pics are AI generated. The kitchen is tiny. It will date badly.

Onelifeonly · 07/02/2026 10:56

I like to see and mix of architectural styles but I wouldn't consider this house as a purchase due to rooms having non right angled corners.

StylishAndBeautiful · 07/02/2026 11:08

I don't mind corners that aren't right angle but many will. The acute angle corner is a problem.

longtompot · 07/02/2026 11:11

I am not adverse to more modern builds, but I don't like this one. I don't like how the car parking area is so squashed and can see longer cars blocking the pavement, a pet peeve of mine. I also don't like how all the bedrooms and the bathroom are accessed off the lounge area.
