Induction hob, yes or no?

i’m hoping to do a kitchen refit, as mine is over 40 years old! Looking at Howdens kitchen and AEG double oven and induction hob.
If any one here has an induction hob what are your views on it?

I love mine. Wouldn’t go back to gas. Induction very quick to cook and very easy to clean.

Octavia64 · 26/12/2025 08:54

No no no no no

much slower to warm up than gas so drying etc takes ages

the one I cooked on for Christmas (Airbnb) was very power limited so once you had two hobs on the max power for each was very limited.

FromageTime · 26/12/2025 08:54

We have one. I don’t cook, but my husband is a complete expert and he loves it. So easy to keep clean too.

Kitchenbattle · 26/12/2025 08:55

I have a Siemens one and I absolutely love it!!here she is at work right now 😆

Induction hob, yes or no?

I had an induction hob fitted in my previous house when we had a new kitchen put in. I loved it. So fast, so easy to cook on and so easy to clean.

We've now moved to a house with a gas hob and I hate it. It's not as responsive, it makes the kitchen too hot in summer, and it's a nightmare to clean.

We're saving up for a new kitchen and will definitely have an induction hob put in.

Youmightnotliketheanswer · 26/12/2025 08:56

My aunt and uncle had one fitted and loved it however had to have it taken out because aunt had a pacemaker fitted and they can interfere with them. I think aunt was told to keep two foot away and as the main cook she said it wasn't doable.

Are you sure it is induction and not just a ceramic hob?

Induction hobs heat up and cool down quickly. I miss a gas hob for stir frying but am otherwise happy with my induction hob.

They are faster than gas. Are you sure it was an induction hob?

Themagicfarawaytreeismyfav · 26/12/2025 08:57

My ex has one in his new house. Its bloody awful, fiddly, annoying and nowhere near as good as gas. He had to spend money on new pots and pans as well.

Pringlebeak · 26/12/2025 08:57

We had one in our previous house and it was fantastic. So quick and responsive.

ETA we have a gas hob now and it's fine but nowhere near as easy to keep clean.

pinkpony88 · 26/12/2025 08:58

I wouldn’t have anything else now I love mine. We took out a gas hob when we moved into this house and replaced it with an induction. The PP who says it takes ages to heat up must have a faulty one. Mine is instant.

youngestisapsycho · 26/12/2025 08:58

I always said I’d never change from gas but we did move to an induction last year and I love it!
We have it hard wired, not just a normal plug in.
It’s so easy to clean!
Has a power boost option so a sauce pan of water is boiling in 90 seconds.
Ours is a wide one with 5 cooking spots.

Yes, that is a major downside of them. I have a couple of friends who can't have induction hobs for this reason.

RandomMess · 26/12/2025 08:59

Always had gas, switched to a decent induction and love it. Would never go back voluntarily.

Just use a magnet to see if your existing pans are compatible.

Grimbleton · 26/12/2025 08:59

Yes would always go induction now but don’t go cheap. Needs to have a proper full mains connection, not a plug and check the reviews to make sure it’s one that’s been tested to heat evenly - some have hot spots. (I signed up to Which when I did my kitchen but I’m slightly dubious about their reviews these days)

only thing I miss about gas is the occasional need to char a red pepper!

Ours is a plug in one as the hard wired one that the supplier brought was faulty. I wish that they have replaced it with another hard wired one instead as they are more powerful. I can't have more than one hob on P as it isn't powerful enough. That is my only regret though.

I also miss not being able to char peppers and tomatoes.

This comment has me confused because they heat, mine has an instant boil function. It’s bloody brilliant. I can cook pasta in about five minutes. This is also helped by the fact that I have a quooker tap.

borntobequiet · 26/12/2025 09:03

Another who would never go back to gas. My induction hob wasn’t expensive, it’s very fast and clean. The idea of having naked flame in the kitchen seems alien to me now.

ExperiencedTeacher · 26/12/2025 09:03

Love mine. So quick and responsive and so much easier to clean. I wouldn’t go back to gas.

Nannyfannybanny · 26/12/2025 09:04

Had mine 12 years, very fast economic. I'm all electric . Looks neat in my tiny kitchen... open plan at the end of the living room. Quick spray with glass cleaner. Saucepans were already compatible. I had a Range cooker in my last house, the gas rings burnt the saucepan handles. I dont do much frying, yet, light fittings etc got so greasy, forever cleaning, now just once a year. Also a lot healthier and better for the environment.

SleepingisanArt · 26/12/2025 09:04

My Neff is 20 years old! We were early adopters of the induction hob. Easy to use, easy to clean. Back then we did have to buy new pans (still going strong) but nowadays most pans are induction compatible. I wouldn't go back to gas.

RandomMess · 26/12/2025 09:05

We don’t have an electric kettle as the induction bob has rapid boil.

APatternGrammar · 26/12/2025 09:05

I had a bad induction hob from Ikea about 10 years ago and concluded that gas was better. But when we moved there was a good Bosch induction hob and that is much better than gas. The timing function is amazing. So my advice is get induction but read the reviews!

Cyclistmumgrandma · 26/12/2025 09:05

They use them on Masterchef and they do seem to get good results. I love mine, wouldn't change unless I had to.

Sounds like Ceramic, not Induction.

& as PP said, needs to have a dedicated supply, not a 13a plug in, which many AirBnB's will have to cut costs.

A 13a oven is ok (just) but a hob needs a 16a or a 32a supply.
