Caught on camera - neighbour filling up my skip

I need some guidance here please!

I have a skip outside my house. Several times a week, whether there is someone in the house or not, my neighbour comes and deposits something there. Bulky items, not small tiny things. I'd say about a quarter of the skip's contents is now my neighbours. I can see him on the camera crossing over the road, walking about 6 doors up and going back into his house. I don't know him personally, though I've lived on the street about 3 years.

What should I do about this. I do need that space for myself. I have also learned that I am responsible for the contents, so if it is rejected by teh skip company when they come to return, or god forbid there is anything illegal etc in there, I am liable. Also, it's just my skip!

What should I do? My parents say I should report it to the police. My uncle says he'll come and put the stuff back in my neighbours front yard!

why would they think that? I mean on what planet would they think that?

Everyone on here who says its not a big deal should provide their address so we can go round and dump our rubbish in their skip. If they don't have one we can dump it in their garden and they can pay to have it taken away

BustingBaoBun · 23/05/2025 12:01

I am enjoying this thread, even if it is a bit bonkers!

One conclusion I have drawn is... there are a few posters on here who have obviously dumped rubbish in a neighbour's skip and are trying to justify it!

I really wish @cannehelpitwould come back and update …

Small tip (pun not intended) for "skip hunters" who want scrapped stuuf for their prrojects ... save yourself the hassle and put the request on NextDoor or similar

You'll be inundated with folk keen to get rid of whatever and probably manage to pick up extra bits as well

But then you lose the fun and joy of the hunt, the finding something random you can make use of! It’s the surprise element that makes skip-fishing such a great hobby.

It’s a bit like the difference between foraging in the woods and going to the supermarket

WB205020 · 23/05/2025 14:20

@cannehelpit Have you managed to take the stuff out or got him too yet?

CoraPirbright · 23/05/2025 16:35

I think you should carefully gather all his rubbish together and add to the pile as the CF continues to dump more stuff in your skip. Dump it all back on his front path in a big pile BUT only once you have ended your skip hire period and it has gone!!

bumblebee1000 · 23/05/2025 17:42

One of my neighbours once put a huge 4 seater sofa on top of my skip...brazen in daylight...we put it back in their front garden...they were renting and moving out...they were all smiley and nice when we explained it was too big for any skip...then the garage up the road put the entire interior of a toyota corolla in the next skip...dash..seats , trim etc...we took it back as they had the shell of the car on driveway, next day it was all back so we returned it again...this went on for about 5 times and then our skip got taken away...minus the car bits.

TiredAH · 23/05/2025 17:44

Send him an invite to pop on for a cuppa and watch a very nice video of a kn0b dumping rubbish on your skip.

Yep,
I'm with your Uncle, kindly return his misplaced items. 😆
The other option is a note through his door saying he either comes and reclaims his misplaced property or you report him for fly tipping as its still chucking something where he has no right to. Make sure he's aware that you have security footage of him doing so and you are happy to let the police sort out the issue.

Anonymousforthisone2025 · 23/05/2025 17:48

Take it out and give it back, say "you appear to have dropped thus" as you do so

Chrisky · 23/05/2025 17:49

He has a damn cheek and I'd ask him to pay towards the skip price if he is putting his items in the skip. They can be expensive to be honest

Lollyus2024 · 23/05/2025 17:53

We had this problem, we took their stuff back to them and told them if they did it again we would report them for fly tipping- which is illegal! They never did it again!

Just take everything back out and go and put it on his doorstep.

that’s what I would do. Why is this even a question?

Hollybollyhughes · 23/05/2025 17:58

I would speak to him and advise that he removes his stuff. We had a skip and our neighbours emptied it! Either way, he should have asked first or he pays for the hire. Rude git.

Lavenderblue11 · 23/05/2025 17:58

user1471505356 · 22/05/2025 07:55

This is normal use of a neighbour's skip.

Only with their permission

Kelly1969 · 23/05/2025 17:59

Chewbecca · 22/05/2025 09:04

How long has the skip been on your driveway?
Is it just the one item he has added, or more?
Do the items added mean you don't have enough space for your own rubbish?
Do you have a street WhatsApp group?

I would be keen to preserve relationships with my neighbours, but I also would be keen to say or do something. What I said, where I said it and how I said it would depend on all the above.

Clearly the neighbour isn’t concerned about preserving relationships

WalmartWitney · 23/05/2025 18:01

What the uncle suggests. I too, would be returning his rubbish to the neighbour. The CF!

PBJsandwich123 · 23/05/2025 18:01

What an absolute tightwad he is!

Say hi and offer for him to buy the skip space he is using at a premium - bet he won't have the balls to behave this rudely in day light. If it's a no - send your uncle around to dump his rubbish back with him. Your uncle is a renegade 💪

Kelly1969 · 23/05/2025 18:02

Lavenderblue11 · 23/05/2025 17:58

Perhaps user1471505356 is the ignorant neighbour!

BlackCoffeeAndSugar · 23/05/2025 18:03

I dknt understand why he's been allowed to do this 15x. By this point he now thinks it's fair game.

PBJsandwich123 · 23/05/2025 18:04

user1471505356 · 23/05/2025 07:08

I am astounded at the rection of most people, the world is so full of grief that I think this is trivial.

There are no points for virtue signalling. You can pick up the bill for OPs skip if that's how you feel

Dogsbreath7 · 23/05/2025 18:05

housethatbuiltme · 22/05/2025 08:06

Its absolutely not and is illegal for the many reasons OP pointed out.

Are you going to pay for the skip your using? its not free

I took that as a tongue in cheek response

Justchillinhere · 23/05/2025 18:09

I'm with the majority, I'd throw it onto his land, a note isn't needed but up to you. My new neighbours were throwing black bags full of the wrong items, cartons, bottles etc into my household bin because they've chosen to put there's further away. The binmen here check! I grabbed those bags and dumped them on her side, she only did it twice.

Boreded · 23/05/2025 18:09

Please take it all back during the night? And then take a photo for us so we can see. I’m fully invested in this one.

i wouldn’t bother with the note because it’s not like you need to say who it is, and he can’t call you out on it because then he would have to admit to having done something wrong
