Caught on camera - neighbour filling up my skip

I need some guidance here please!

I have a skip outside my house. Several times a week, whether there is someone in the house or not, my neighbour comes and deposits something there. Bulky items, not small tiny things. I'd say about a quarter of the skip's contents is now my neighbours. I can see him on the camera crossing over the road, walking about 6 doors up and going back into his house. I don't know him personally, though I've lived on the street about 3 years.

What should I do about this. I do need that space for myself. I have also learned that I am responsible for the contents, so if it is rejected by teh skip company when they come to return, or god forbid there is anything illegal etc in there, I am liable. Also, it's just my skip!

What should I do? My parents say I should report it to the police. My uncle says he'll come and put the stuff back in my neighbours front yard!

What a cheeky fucker! I'd definitely report him

Hoppinggreen · 22/05/2025 07:45

Take it out and give it back to him

SummerySunshine8 · 22/05/2025 07:46

I'm with your uncle, chuck it in their driveway/front garden.

Cheeky fuckers.

Alternatively, inform the skip company and have them invoice your neighbour.

Mj2025end · 22/05/2025 07:46

Take it back!

TotemPolly · 22/05/2025 07:46

Take it back and leave it in his garden with a message taped to his front door saying .
We saw you !

Januaryclouds · 22/05/2025 07:47

I would get your uncle to put the stuff back in your neighbours garden and put a note through the door saying what you’ve said here

SparklyGlitterballs · 22/05/2025 07:47

If you've got it on camera then remove it and return it. I doubt the police will do much.

Edited to add: can the skip company provide some sort of cover to put on at night to prevent flytippers?

SpunkySquid · 22/05/2025 07:47

Yep, take it back.

onceuponatimeinneverland · 22/05/2025 07:48

Think you need to go and tell him you've got him on camera and want him to stop.

Ask him to remove his rubbish or return it to him.

Give him the number of the skip company.

Mischance · 22/05/2025 07:48

Or speak to him and say you are happy to share the skip if he pays his share of the cost. If not he needs to take the stuff back.

nahthatsnotforme · 22/05/2025 07:49

I’d go and knock on his door and tell him to come and fetch his rubbish himself

Imstillmagic · 22/05/2025 07:49

Take your Uncle up on the offer and tape a note to his door. “If this ends up back in my skip, I’ll contact the police and then the skip company so that they can send you the invoice”. No idea if the skip company will do that but maybe he doesn’t know either lol.

CinnamonBuns67 · 22/05/2025 07:50

I'd go to his front door with the footage and give him the opportunity to remove it and tell him you'll be reporting it if he does it again. If he refuses to remove it or if he does it again I'd then report it.

cannehelpit · 22/05/2025 07:50

It is incredibly cheeky.

He just walks up, places a fold up table, around 1m by 70cm, into the skip. Dusts his hands off on his shorts, and walks back to his house.

Job done.

;p ;p ;p

It's jaw dropping to watch on camera. About 15 instances of it! Bit metal poles. It's as though he's seen my skip and decided now is teh time to get rid of all amnner of rubbish from his house!

Big metal poles

I think if you leave it on his front garden you can be done for fly topping. I worked for the council and one householder had left a bag on top of bin loader put it on ground next to bin. Householder complained flytipped on their property. Council agreed.

I’d pop around /send bolshy uncle write a letter and say video evidence will be reporting you for flytipping unless removed by x.

Pleasealexa · 22/05/2025 07:52

I doubt police will be interested as it's a civil matter.

Talk to him, some people wrongly assume a not filled skip means they can use it!
See how it goes when you talk to him. If he's not cooperative then you could return his bulky items on his driveway.

BlahBlahBittyBlah · 22/05/2025 07:53

Put it all back in his garden. If he’s cheeky enough to object, let him know how much he owes you for half the cost of the skip.

jay55 · 22/05/2025 07:54

Knock on his door and tell him to come and collect it all.

user1471505356 · 22/05/2025 07:55

This is normal use of a neighbour's skip.

Dontjudgeme101 · 22/05/2025 07:56

I would definitely take your Uncle round with you with his things.

itsgettingweird · 22/05/2025 07:58

Get your uncle round. Take some stuff back and knock on his door whilst you have it.

Ask him if he wants to come and get the rest himself or pay you 50% of skip hire now in cash.

Lolopolo · 22/05/2025 07:59

Just get your uncle do take it back. I’d knock on his door when you go and tell him it’s not a communal skip and you can afford to subsidise his clear out.

But its not 'fly tipping' its returning his belongings that he has placed without permission on your land.

Legally you suppose to attempt to return belongings, I would photograph it to show you delivered it back to a safe place like with a parcel.

Its absolutely not and is illegal for the many reasons OP pointed out.

Are you going to pay for the skip your using? its not free
