Wacky or gorgeous?

A friend who is searching for a property by the sea sent me this for my opinion.

I am torn between thinking it wacky and gorgeous.

What do you think?

Gorgeous.

I couldn't live there as I'd never be able to find anything amongst the clutter but it's certainly a feast for the eyes.

I love that they've kept all the original features too.

It can easily be de wacked. It’s mainly wall
aper

fhe kitchen is normal

zingally · 04/04/2025 13:58

It's got lovely bones and lots of nice original features. The wacky wallpaper isn't really to my taste, but that's pretty easily and cheaply fixed.

TaupeAndTeal · 04/04/2025 14:02

Apart from the faux panelling wallpaper I like the decor. The house is generally lovely. Good ceiling height, features. Layout isn’t perfect. I don’t know if I would want my bedroom next to the living room. Not sure I would want to live in Hastings either.

whatswrongwivme · 04/04/2025 14:08

This really is a Marmite house! Love it or hate it.

It isn't my personal taste, but it's all very nicely done and well thought-out. I wouldn't want to live with that decor myself but I do think it's really well-executed and I'm sure it would hugely appeal to a lot of people.

TinkerTailorSoldier · 04/04/2025 20:21

I think if the house owners had done loads of IG reels of before/during/after the redecoration, they would have gained loads of followers. But the overall decor doesn't age well outside of IG and in an estate agent ad

Love it. Fundamentally a really solid house
The decor etc can be changed and the bulk the aesthetic won’t be there the owner will take them

YoungSoak · 04/04/2025 20:48

Looks like a house that Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen would live in

RaininSummer · 04/04/2025 20:48

It's gorgeous and I love their style.

Mumwithbaggage · 04/04/2025 21:03

It's lovely - a few thinks are a bit OTT for me. DH would think I'd lost the plot though if I started decorating like that!

springbringshope · 04/04/2025 21:05

Are those dots a filter? Or a disco ball reflecting?
stripped back it could be nice

CharlotteCChapel · 04/04/2025 21:05

It's a good property but I'd need to redecorate most of it.

curlywurlymum · 04/04/2025 21:06

It’s gorgeous in my opinion

It's lovely. Beautiful kitchen and garden. And tbh when you strip out all of the owner's stuff, it's really just a few rooms with lairy wallpaper, some of which I like anyway.

The only thing I find really ugly is that fake panelling wallpaper in the sitting room, the rest I could happily live with.

Exactly the same thoughts from me !
I really don't like the panelling paper ,other than that i really like it ,nice to see something other than 'neptune neutral'.

MadamePeriwinkle · 04/04/2025 21:31

The house itself is lovely, although if want to put a bathroom in on the first floor.

The decor is hideous - I quite like maximalism but that's just a mess.

Gundogday · 04/04/2025 21:39

I’m not sure it’s wacky or gorgeous, although has potential. I don’t mind a bit of quirkiness, but I’m not sure about the look of this house. Quite liked the bedrooms though.

hby9628 · 04/04/2025 22:04

I think it’s beautiful. Obviously all of the furniture & paintings will be removed when it sells. It’s a gorgeous light airy house. Love it.

ohnowwhatcanitbe · 04/04/2025 22:06

I love the house. But most of the wallpaper would have to go.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 04/04/2025 22:46

Fabulous house. Decor Not particularly to my taste but then I'm quite minimalist.

I'm confused by the strange strips of wallpaper by the windows, they look odd to me. Agree with others that the panelling wallpaper is awful and looks terribly cheap. The conservatory looks like it will be a damp nightmare. Otherwise, it's nice enough with lots of lovely original features. The garden has lots of potential too.

Pretty sure most of the wallpaper is B&Q

Munnygirl · 05/04/2025 23:37

I love it

Ginmonkeyagain · 06/04/2025 09:33

Some nice individual ideas but it doesn't really hang together very well. It's somehow less than the sum of its parta.

The house has lovely bones though and can take some bold interior design.

user9637 · 06/04/2025 09:40

Both!

XVGN · 06/04/2025 17:22

It's easy to get rid of all the nonsense if you don't like it, but the owner is expecting you to pay a premium of around £100k for their own tastes. If it's just what you want then job done. Just realise how much you're paying for it.
