Wacky or gorgeous?

A friend who is searching for a property by the sea sent me this for my opinion.

I am torn between thinking it wacky and gorgeous.

What do you think?

There’s a lot going on in there. I kind of like it haha!

fromthevault · 04/04/2025 09:54

It's lovely. Beautiful kitchen and garden. And tbh when you strip out all of the owner's stuff, it's really just a few rooms with lairy wallpaper, some of which I like anyway.

The only thing I find really ugly is that fake panelling wallpaper in the sitting room, the rest I could happily live with.

CrotchetyQuaver · 04/04/2025 09:57

What a lovely house with so many original features still intact. I love all the bold colour choices although if it was mine I'd probably tone it down a bit as I worked round, but not vastly different as I really like William Morris style fabrics and wallpaper.
That would be up for at least double the price where I live..

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/04/2025 09:58

It's still got a lot of original features like the bannister, fireplaces and cornices. Once they have removed the furniture and rugs then it's basically an opportunity to redecorate to your own taste.

PandoraSox · 04/04/2025 09:58

It is a bit much for me, but I like it a lot better than wall to wall grey and greige. Lovely kitchen.

sixtyandfabulousofcourse · 04/04/2025 09:59

I love the house but do not really like some of the clutter and they seem very fond of pink! without it all lovely house and you would soon add your own tweaks

Cocolapew · 04/04/2025 10:00

Gorgeous, my type of decor 😀.

Wilfrida1 · 04/04/2025 10:00

I am going to show my DH. It will prove to him that what he considers my wild ideas are, in fact, quite tame!

Pootles34 · 04/04/2025 10:01

Really lovely house - they've done the expensive bits (kitchen units, bathroom, etc.) fairly neutrally, so it will be very easy to change if you don't like the loudness. It looks very well cared for.

QuirkInTheMatrix · 04/04/2025 10:02

I love it. The decor anyway, some of the furniture not so much.

Iheartmysmart · 04/04/2025 10:11

I love it! Great that the majority of the original features are still in place. So much nicer that the awful bland grey interiors and hideous white gloss kitchens most houses seem to have these days.

Yoursselfmysselfandotherss · 04/04/2025 10:17

Way too much for me.

sharkanado · 04/04/2025 10:19

The interiors is a bit too much for me but it's a gorgeous house & a fantastic garden. It's depressing how much you get for your money there!

sweetpickle2 · 04/04/2025 10:25

It's a beautiful house- some of the decor is a bit much for me (that wood panelling wallpaper is a crime) but it's just decor.

MeliusMoriQuamServire · 04/04/2025 10:25

Love it. It's a bit girly for my taste with lots of pink and flowers, but still love it. Maximalism, my favourite. My own house is very similar, jus no pink/florals. The only thing I really don't like is the wallpaper, the panelling one.

My brother just bought and decorated his flat. Greige, 'earthy tones', sensible greige sofa and chairs, etc. Expensively done, but so so dull, no personality at all. Obviously I didn't say any of this to him, but I'd never live in the place like that.

caramac04 · 04/04/2025 10:35

I really like it although I’d never dare be so bold. The rooms and layout are good, the garden is great. As pp’s have said, once the owners have moved out it’s ’quieter’. The fake wood panelling isn’t for me but could be painted or removed. I’d want to do that carefully in case the wall is damaged behind it.
Nothing there to put me off buying it if it’s the area I’m looking in iyswim

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 04/04/2025 10:42

I ‘m sure I saw that house on a property programme a few years ago. Can’t remember which one but it looks very familiar.

FelixLighter · 04/04/2025 10:47

Headache inducing. I couldn’t be dealing with that. However I can’t stand full on greige or those ghastly greys either.

suah · 04/04/2025 10:49

I’d rather the wood panelling wallpaper than the fake panelling with moulding that was trendy a few years ago - wallpaper is much easier to remove!

Giggorata · 04/04/2025 10:49

it's a lovely house and, as others have said, retains a lot of original features, a big plus for me.
The main fixtures are white, so most of the apparent wackiness is superficial and down to wallpaper and possessions.
It could completely change its character with different decor, from becoming the usual cloned greige house to a dark gothic lair.
Personally, I would go much darker, whilst still being maximalist and I am also a great fan of colour drenching, which looks smashing in older houses.

Growlybear83 · 04/04/2025 10:50

I think it’s both. I might tone a couple of things down, but I love bright colours and original features, and if I lived there, I think every room would make me smile every day. I love Hastings as well.

Wigtopia · 04/04/2025 10:50

only thing I wouldn’t keep would be the panelling wallpaper in the front room but the rest of the wall colours and wallpaper is brilliant.

Hoppinggreen · 04/04/2025 10:51

I love it
If anything happens to DH it is the kind of place I would live with just a cat or 2

HazelShark · 04/04/2025 10:53

Love it! I wish I had the creative eye to be able to create something like this

3WildOnes · 04/04/2025 10:53

The fake panelling is ghastly. I quite like a few of the other rooms. It's a lovely house in general.
