Looks like a newt.

SwedishEdith · 23/02/2025 00:12

A newt?

FromHere · 23/02/2025 00:14

Looks like a newt. Why is it scary? 😂 you r probably had quite a few in the garden just never seen one. Not really any different to a toad or frog.

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 23/02/2025 00:14

It's a tiny harmless English newt, just coming out of hibernation.
Sweet little thing.

sprigatito · 23/02/2025 00:15

Seriously? You've never seen a newt before? You're very lucky to have him! Do you have a pond?

Christwosheds · 23/02/2025 00:17

It’s a newt ! Lucky you.
It will be trying to get to the pond for the breeding season . If there is a pond in your garden or a neighbour’s, then that’s where it will go. I love newts.

TheHillsIsLonely · 23/02/2025 00:19

Yes, it's a newt. We're lucky to get them visiting our garden from a neighbour's large pond.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/02/2025 00:22

Or if your camera is a bit dodgy it could be a very faraway crocodile? .....

It's a newt and you are very lucky .
They are quite rare IIRC.

Tortielady · 23/02/2025 00:32

What a sweet little critter. Newts chomp on slugs, mites and all sorts of other creatures you might not want in your garden.

kittensinthekitchen · 23/02/2025 00:37

dinosaur

SabrinaThwaite · 23/02/2025 00:49

Baby alligator. Which means there’s a mother alligator not far away.

You got the cat in for the night, yes?

LittleGreenDragons · 23/02/2025 01:44

Lucky you. It's a newt and they are very good at decimating the slugs and snails. Treasure it 😍

FFSJulie · 23/02/2025 01:47

His name is Isaac. Isaac Newt-on. He is looking for his mate, Olivia Newt-on John. They are great to have around.

JudgeBread · 23/02/2025 01:52

Why are you terrified? It's a tiny little newt not a ten foot gator.

3Sheetstothewind · 23/02/2025 02:01

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/02/2025 02:53

It’s a lovely little newt.

FictionalCharacter · 23/02/2025 03:09

Read about newts. Hopefully if you learn a bit about wildlife, you won't be "terrified" of tiny, harmless, vulnerable little creatures.

TheSandgroper · 23/02/2025 06:41

Ooh, isn’t it sweeet? Says the Australian where lots of things aren’t sweet at all.

Tatemoderndrawyourown · 23/02/2025 07:03

Oh I’d love one! Or the entire family!!! Please treat it with kindness.

pelargoniums · 23/02/2025 07:06

Looks like composite decking to me. Easily removed if it scares you, but keep that lovely newt safe while you do so.

Awww cute!
Start digging a pond.
I understand the title of your post, the terrified bit.
Seeing something you don't expect to see can be a little disconcerting.
I had a toad on my patio step, opened the door and it made me jump even though I knew it was a toad.
It put its little paw??? on the bottom sill of the door frame and I couldn't shut the door.
We had this kind of awkward standoff, I was scared to move it in case it jumped into the house.
I've got two small ponds/ homemade water features (ones an old Belfast sink) and the attract so much wildlife, it's great.

Don't I said to my DP this morning it's like a baby crocodile 😂😂 I was half afraid someone would tell me it's a baby rat (don't ask why I know it's not the shape) they're my biggest fear
