Best places to live in Stevenage and where to avoid?

Hi,

A relative has been looking at places to buy in Stevenage. Roebuck ward or Stevenage North are being mooted as possibilities.

The flats under consideration are in blocks - mostly still social housing from what I can tell. I am worried about service charges and also what would happen if the LA decided to demolish/refurbish down the line.

Relative in question is a first time buyer with limited budget looking for a one bed flat. Not especially attached to the idea of Stevenage, but the property has to be commutable to London by train, whilst not costing a fortune in fares. (We’d also like a unicorn, just whilst we’re asking 😹😹😹)

I know absolutely nothing about Stevenage so would be grateful for any feedback on areas to avoid, plus suggestions for alternatives.

Budget is up to £200,000, (preferably less!)

Thanks so much for any advice/info.

Have a look at Dunstable too, you'd get a 1 bed flat for under £200,000 and it's a commutable distance to London

I’d keep away from Stevenage altogether. It’s only good for shopping.
