Don’t you think you could be very happy here?

No - I was in Kew village yesterday and much as it's lovely and has some beautiful streets it's bang on the Heathrow flight path and they are very low at this point - having lived in Windsor before I wouldn't risk it -

Meanwhile here’s what £29,950,000 gets you in Twickenham:

Ooh, I really like this house for £6,995,000 directly on the river at Twickenhan:

Would rather have this for the same money !

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about.

ThisIcyHare · 20/12/2024 22:07

Similar to my parents house, I used to have ice inside my windows and my curtains blew around in the wind!

OrsolaRosso · 20/12/2024 22:11

The original house listed on the thread has 6 bedrooms and only 2 bathrooms. And the one for £29 million has 9 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. Both odd.

Lord Lucan’s son, the current Earl of Lucan, should buy that one, given it’s his family’s ancestral home. Might be another branch, but Bingham is the family name.

I'm always really surprised when people post houses that are just so big and unhomely. I just couldn't imagine living in one of them.

EconomyClassRockstar · 20/12/2024 22:49

The house is lovely but not for me. I would love to hang out with the owners though. They're giving just the right side of eccentric vibes to me!

Yogaandchocolate · 20/12/2024 23:02

I’d buy this and enjoy the £3.6M change https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/153259751#/?channel=RES_BUY

Nice but you’d want to turn the snooker room back into the Ball Room!

Hmmm wrong side of Kew in my opinion
For that money, I'd want to be on Kew Green

Yes I love that one too and what a fabulous location! It's been done up recently...it was on the market a year ago and was more faded grandeur inside then

Are those bears on the stairs?

TheRainItRaineth · 20/12/2024 23:53

I used to walk past that Kew house all the time a few years ago and often thought it looked like it was hiding something good. Agree it is a bit overpriced though definitely laughed out loud at the 600K comment. Tell me you've never lived in London without telling me etc.

Is the area not the best? Looks like there’s some estates round the corner?

TheRainItRaineth · 21/12/2024 00:01

It's a really nice area. Safe, good schools, lots to do.

TheRainItRaineth · 21/12/2024 00:02

The only downside is being just off the South Circular. I live about a ten minute walk away and love the area but would not choose to live right by a main road.

Shouldnellly · 21/12/2024 00:02

Honestly it looks awful. Cold and intimidating and in a state of disrepair. I wouldn’t swap my little 3 bed London house for that in a million years (unless I could immediately sell and pocket £7.5m obvs)

PickAChew · 21/12/2024 00:05

I could be happy enough anywhere but there if I had the sort of money that would pay for it. Did the previous owner meet an untimely end courtesy of one of those wrinkly rugs?

SurreyMumOfOne · 21/12/2024 00:08

Estates aren't the bother. The whole area would be nice to live in, it's just as I mentioned, the main road which is a smelly traffic jam, the retail park, the tip. It's quite a diversely mixed use area with associated traffic and noise. At least the stinky works next the the Archives closed down about ten years ago.

As pp have said the other side of the main road is much nicer. More squarely residential and you can walk for ages on comparatively quiet streets.

Polistock · 21/12/2024 00:12

I used to live on the little housing estate right next to this house. I was always intrigued by it, it's such a lovely grand building in such an odd spot - small council estate to the right, older detached houses opposite and big new build estate to the left. It's a lovely area though. Yes, Heathrow is nearby and the planes are low but the river is right there and Kew is such a lovely place to live. Ah, thanks for posting this, OP, it's made me nostalgic for a different life.

soupfiend · 21/12/2024 00:20

I would change barely anything, love it.
