Don’t you think you could be very happy here?

I used to have a friend living in this area and I've walked past this a few times. Really interesting to see inside.

in theory I see the appeal but if someone can afford it, it would still be impossible to heat. Only a purchase for those who don't feel the cold.

jimmyateworld · 20/12/2024 20:00

I think that sheet on the floor is doing it no favours ! A bit of stylish modernising needed imo

Martymcfly24 · 20/12/2024 20:03

Don't know the area but I think it's horrible..looks like a dusty stately home you would drag a school tour too.

Some of us dream of dusty stately homes

probably if we read lots of historical fiction 😂

PebbledashDreams · 20/12/2024 20:38

To be honest living there I’d also be worried about getting burgled.

No. The surrounding properties aren't in keeping with the grandeur and style of this house

BBBusterkeys · 20/12/2024 20:43

No. If I had 7.5M quid to spare I would retire somewhere sunny, warm and far cheaper.

Fire86 · 20/12/2024 20:47

Money pit!

Nope sorry. ,😄

I read a lot of historical fiction too from my dust free minimum box!

Practicalities of location and cost aside I think it’s beautiful, dream house indeed if you could move it north and tack on a couple of acres.

That house is lovely - but agree, fecking freezing. Single glazed windows, high ceilings, tiny little radiators for massive rooms, no insulation.... No thanks.

I'd rather have this one not too far from where I am now - potential to make it absolutely gorgeous. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/148828637#/?channel=RES_BUY

I'd rather that one too! It's stunning. Peace, quiet and solitude...absolutely bliss. No way would I want to live in London.

Ketzele · 20/12/2024 21:06

It is absolutely stunning. I'll happily take it off your hands if you could give me £100k a year to run it!

MrsSethGecko, a friend of mine used to rent a studio in the back garden of one of those houses in Princelet St. Obviously no side return, so we used to walk through the house to get to the studio. It gave me a frisson every time!

Oblomov24 · 20/12/2024 21:15

I like it very much. But £7.5 is too much, it would need so much spent on it. Plus newspaper article says £3.4. I don't the 2nd op link at all.

Oblomov24 · 20/12/2024 21:16

Plus garden is now too small for size of house.

KnigCnut · 20/12/2024 21:17

Gorgeous house, but if I had that kind of money, I would not spend it in London. I would buy something similar elsewhere for 1/4 the price and spend the rest making it mine and living off the surplus!

Yes I wondered about the pride disparity .

Reading the news article it seems the original listing somehow didn’t include all of the main house (think they’d split some of it into flats?), or any of the lodges / outbuildings.

£7.5m is for everything. Still sounds like it’s too much, all considered.

It needs cosying up, warm fires, rugs, soft furnishings.
So ever the rooms need repainting, imagine how long that would take!
I think I could make it rather nice though!

Tinselskirt · 20/12/2024 21:26

God no. Imagine what you could get outside London for that. Probably 20 bedrooms and room for a pony.

ElinAlma · 20/12/2024 21:29

I grew up near there. That road is horrible.

Its off Lower Mortlake road which is very loud. A biggish council estate (Brick Farm Close) is directly behind that house. Lots of traffic from the flats accordingly. Also backs onto Mortlake crematorium. It's in the middle of nowhere and a fair walk to Kew Gardens tube station to be able to get anywhere.

House looks dated too.

SurreyMumOfOne · 20/12/2024 21:30

No.

"In need of complete renovation" and after you've spent all of the £££ you're still wedged between the South Circular, a retail park and the tip, with a small garden for the size of the place.

Still, it'd be handy for M&S.

True!

But equally this property would be vastly more expensive if it was in North London (eg Primrose Hill or St John’s Wood) or more central, eg Chelsea, Notting Hill or Mayfair.

In those locations it might be £20-£50m for the same bricks and mortar.

Flight path in Kew is terribly.

reminds me of that part in rivals when they mock the ‘new money lady’ for her ‘fitted carpets’

those floors need carpets!!

Tortielady · 20/12/2024 21:37

It's a beautiful house, but £7.5m is a vast amount, especially for a doer-upper. It has single glazing, only two full bathrooms and probably needs a massively expensive central heating upgrade. If you like the idea of genteel discomfort and a sparring session with Mr Darcy in that room with all the green paint about your awful family and his arrogant manners, have at it😁

Motnight · 20/12/2024 21:37

unmemorableusername · 20/12/2024 18:49

It's not doing anything for me.

Overlooked & gloomy. Must be in a right state to not show all the rooms. Hate former/attic rooms.

It's bland. If it was £600k maybe but no more.

How to say that you're not from London without saying that you're not from London 🤣🤣
