I came on to comment about the Quooker and how much I love mine but I've been sidetracked by the section of your kitchen plan which you have shown us. It looks like your kitchen isn't particularly large if all of these white goods are going in one corner so it's completely bizarre that the planner would leave a void in that corner. Also surely having the dishwasher and washing machine open out into the same space is going to cause issues?

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 09/01/2025 09:35

I've had one for years. I wouldn't be without it. The customer service post install is v good too.

SorrowsPrayers · 09/01/2025 09:41

Find a way to fit it in. We absolutely love ours!

I can’t move the sink to where you are saying. The hobs would be next to the sink

i dont onow if it’s an over specification. That’s what I want to understand

Edited

Can't you swap the sink and washing machine then at least have some access to the corner cupboard (albeit limited by the depth of the sink.)

We thought that but then I won’t be by the sink to put the stuff in the dishwasher

That's a (putting it politely) very odd layout for your kitchen. Can you share the whole kitchen plan? There's no way a decent designer should have factored in dead space. Corners can be hard to use, but they should never be empty!

Grannyinnwaiting · 09/01/2025 10:24

We put one in this year when renovating our kitchen - it's fab. My mother had the first i ever heard of about 25 years ago - it's still going strong!

Sure. Not up to scale but it’s like this. The squares on the left are a patio door and a window

I have a Qettle one. Love it. Also have chilled filtered water on same tsp.

BuzzieLittleBee · 09/01/2025 10:52

Can you move the WM to the other side of the sink, so laundry is all in one place, then you could have a corner unit (because you wouldn't have 2 appliances adjacent to the corner)? You can still have the drainer part of the sink over the WM, to maximise the worktop space. Then think about what you're going to do with the worktop over the TD, as that's at risk of being 'dead' space. Is there a socket there? Could the kettle/toaster go there?

I guess there's a door somewhere! Does that stop you going any further down the wall beyond the larder? There's not a lot of storage in there (although I'm assuming you have a couple of wall units?

I'd say you don't have the luxury of cupboard space for a Quooker, but I'd be questionning whether the designer has made best use of the space first.

Short run (side): Tumble dryer, then dishwasher, then sink with access to corner, then washing machine on the long run, then hob, etc etc

AlohaRose · 09/01/2025 11:06

I presume that is a plan which you have just drawn up now and not the designer's one? So you've just included the relevant bits as there seem to be no cupboards etc (apart from the larder) in that drawing?

Yes sorry there is a door by the larder into another room and I’ve not put any wall cabinets in the schema there is wall cabinets on the right wall and as well in the front (the hob wall)

We thought about this as well but it doesn’t look too symmetrical as the washing machine isn’t integrated so would look weird in there (we tried that and it did look strange)

EasterIssland · 09/01/2025 11:12

Thanks all. I appreciate the input. As a poster has said I might be over comitting in what I wanted in the kitchen and it doesn’t sound like I can have it all as desired , so will speak with my husband again whether this is what we want (without the quooker) or whether we should take the tumble dryer out of the equation)

How about TD, WM, sink (corner cupboard) then DW. Then your TD and WM are together (looking similar).

If you can't go any further down the RH wall, then you definitely should be making use of that space in the corner. Who is your kitchen designer? I can't believe that's what they've come up with!

okydokethen · 09/01/2025 11:13

Yes!

LaPalmaLlama · 09/01/2025 11:22

I had a corner sink with cupboard underneath it in my last house. It was a really good use of space.

TizerorFizz · 09/01/2025 11:23

I would have a cupboard made to stack washing machine and tumble dryer on the short wall. Then free up WM space for sink cupboard with access to corner.

The long wall is 4x600 mm units wide? Only 2.4m? My DD had this in a London flat and there is no room for a tumble dryer. You have large patio doors so what’s the other side of them? The room next door? The kitchen space looks tiny and you might need to think about expanding the space.

DD had a return (small peninsular) built. This takes bins, built in microwave and provides serving and work top area. You don’t tend to cook over a washing machine. I also agree on the conflict of doors. Her oven is under the hob because space is so tight. Her drudge freezer is the only larger alliance. It makes it feel spacious and you need to work out how to get a better working kitchen in a small space. There are some great sinks with built over chopping boards for example.

Looked a bit like this in terms of the layout and you’d deffo get all the Quooker stuff underneath

Problem with this one is I can’t be by the sink to be next to the dishwasher

The DW doesn't move from where it is now? It's just the sink moves up a bit. Do you want the sink to be closer to the DW or further away?

mondaytosunday · 09/01/2025 11:52

Well I hate laundry goods in a kitchen! But if you have no other place for it (cupboard upstairs would make much more sense and I stole from a bedroom upstairs to do exactly this), but as for the Quooker question I couldn't be without mine. It's the most used appliance on the kitchen!

ThatsNotMyTeen · 09/01/2025 11:55

I would have loved one but we didn’t have much space

I find the quooker one safe to use but have used other, cheaper ones too and can see how scalding could occur with those.
