We have one, an Aquatap rather than Qooker as it was much cheaper.

I love it! A brilliant decision and I love not having limescaley tea!

I got the one with boiling and filtered water, but wish I'd got the one with chilled and sparkling water too.

TizerorFizz · 05/12/2024 22:44

With the Franke, you have to press down very hard on the tap handle to use it. It’s at the rear of a big Belfast sink so not easy for children to reach.

Quooker Tap is excellent. Had ours 4 years now and as good as the day it was installed. Also recommend an Insinkerator. Cracking piece of kit and keeps food scraps out of the bin which can be particularly handy in the summer when the pesky flies are around.

I was looking into the insinkerator(we didn’t want one but curious about what they do). Seems like they’re not going to be legal post 2026.

It basically chops up anything you put down the sink. e.g. veg peelings, leftovers etc. It's probably the best gadget we have in the kitchen tbh. We dont have the ability to recycle food waste in our area yet although I know some counties have special collections for it.

Thete are endless threads about this on here. Full of enthusiastic Quooker owners, and non-enthusiasts who’ve drunk tea made with them and find it disgusting. Whereupon the Quooker owners say their tea tastes fine and none of their fussy, tea-drinking friends ever complain, and the non-owners say that Quooker owners are so evangelical about their new gadget that it would be cruel to tell them their tea is gross.

Lots of people make disgusting tea for all kinds of reasons which are nothing to do with whether they have a Quooker tap or not. For many people, life doesn't revolve around cups of tea.

Then what’s the point of a Quooker? Are people really boiling food that often? Filling hot water bottles? Making instant coffee? Using boiling water for mopping floors?

Throughthebluebells · 06/12/2024 08:58

Yes, absolutely love mine!

The issue with tea is that people put the mug under the tap before they turn it on and get cold water mixed with the boiling water. It is essential to put the mug under after the tap has cleared whatever water was left inside it from the last time it was used.

I use it for tea and coffee, filling hot water bottles, cooking etc.

Capricornandproud · 06/12/2024 09:02

If your hubby’s a tea drinker, be prepared to still need a kettle! I don’t find it hot enough or the right taste for tea at all!

That’s what he’s concerned about. He says he ain’t that bothered and concerned about taste (he’s quite fussy with the tea if he had to choose something in life to take to an island it’d be tea over me and I don’t blame him :)))

You have to buy a UK brand like Qettle so the water is actually boiling, and do what @Throughthebluebells said about bleeding it a bit first.

BigDahliaFan · 06/12/2024 14:12

I'm fussy with tea and find the Qooker absolutely fine. We had one at work that was shit...which put me off at first.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 06/12/2024 14:14

I think they're a waste of money to be honest.

This is absolutely true

I turn on the boiling water, let it run for a second, then put mug under. The first second or so of water is not boiling (as it was sitting in the tap) but after that it is.

Waspie · 06/12/2024 14:50

They are wonderful. I run on tea and don't have a problem with my Qooker boiling water tap. You must get a boiling water tap though, not a hot water tap which only heats to 98 degrees. That's no good for tea.

We have the smallest size of water tank and it doesn't take up very much space in the cupboard under the sink..

Putyourshoesonnownownow · 07/12/2024 07:52

Those saying it's near impossible to accidentally turn on the boiling water...my 6yo DS did exactly that at a friend's house. Friends mum had no idea how he'd managed to do it and luckily was there to get the cold on it straight away but could have been a lot worse. I know there are mechanisms to stop this happening but.... It did happen. Put me off ever wanting one.

zingally · 07/12/2024 10:46

I've just moved into a house with one. And honestly? I'm not bothered. If you've never had one before, you won't really miss it - if you know what I mean.

EasterIssland · 07/12/2024 15:28

Been to the kitchen place and there is no space under the counter so won’t upgrade on this. Thanks for the help

Happy new year to all

sorry for reviving the thread again. We had a visit yesterday from the guy from the place we got our kitchen from. He mentioned to my husband that maybe we could have the quooker and I’m in between two minds

weve got a dead space in a corner. See attached pic

he’s suggestion (we had already thought about it tho also discarded) was to have the tank in the empty space

problems… not so easy access as we’d have to move the free standing washing machine to access it. My friend also said she once had a small leak … which she saw because it’s under the sink whilst I wouldn’t see it. My plan is to have hardwood flooring so If there was leak im worried of potential damage

there is no space under the sink as we’ve got the bins in there as well as all related with washing

Quooker yes or not

@EasterIssland That's dreadful kitchen planning! A void! How big is this kitchen? No utility room? Are you over specifying with a boiling tap? If you don’t have a utility, is this a relatively small house? I cannot imagine wasting space like this and yes, the tank should be accessible. A solid hard wood floor is not a great idea under a washing machine either.

BigDahliaFan · 09/01/2025 08:51

Ours has never leaked, 4 years now, though we have had a leak from a washing machine. As long as you can access it it sounds like a good use of otherwise wasted space.

As an aside friend put her bin under the worktop so she can scoop stuff straight into it after chopping and also can scrape plates without getting in way of anyone washing at the sink.

So is a boiling tap an over specification? If you move the sink to where the DW is, you would have access to the corner. You can remove bins to get into the corner space. Your planning isn’t great.

Mum2Fergus · 09/01/2025 09:27

Are there any ongoing costs for these water taps or just initial outlay?

I can’t move the sink to where you are saying. The hobs would be next to the sink

i dont onow if it’s an over specification. That’s what I want to understand
