I know it’s usually price but this seems v reasonable for the area?

only issue I can see is bedrooms maybe being small/strange shapes?

I think I’m in love with it 😂not that it’s in my current budget

It is commuter belt all the way up that railway line, past Sandy and up to Huntingdon really. Peterborough even, at a push. It never used to be, but it is now.

"Peterborough even, at a push. It never used to be, but it is now."

I very much agree that it is commuter belt all the way up, but it's not new. I was certainly commuting from Peterborough to London 27 years ago. Even back then there were a lot of people doing that (mostly men though).

Back then the railway had only recently been privatised (it was British Rail up until 30 years ago). Those that could afford it went non-stop with GNER (nowadays LNER).

Others, like myself, went on the slower Thameslink trains that stop at other commuter towns like Huntingdon, St Neots and Biggleswade where more commuters would get on.

Or, you could end on the stopping train that stops at literally every station along the way, including Sandy, (and even Finsbury Park) on it's way to Kings Cross.

Sorry, totally off-topic.

Looks hotch potch from outside.

My thoughts exactly

Is it two or three different properties?
One property with three different roof styles?

It's confusing and in fact not that large.

It will be those ridiculous multi-coloured cows 🙄

Leave Toby alone 😂 I have McCoo couple😂

It’s set in an acre 😂

It might have an acre of land, but that is all on one side.

If you have a look at photo 6, the "kitchen/breakfast", it shows the fence with the neighbour literally just outside the window.

If I were to pay seven figures for a house in the country I wouldn't want to be staring out at a six foot fence just a couple of metres from my window.

MeMyselfandIsland · 28/08/2024 13:07

I didn’t realise a thatched roof could be such upkeep!

love hearing everyone’s perspectives on it.

round here you often have v close neighbours on a £1mil plus house so don’t know that would put me off but the small bedrooms and thatched roof would!

Layout. It's so spread out you would need servants to run it. Way, way too big for most people's needs.

I beat you then, I've lived around here for - let me see - 41 years. 😄

We did once consider moving to Peterborough, but never got around to it.

It is literally back to back with another large property.

what about this? Love a Georgian house I was lucky enough to live in one some time ago - such beautiful details

It's a beautiful house.

invisiblecat · 28/08/2024 22:44

@MeMyselfandIsland It has a library and a wine cellar. It's like a real-life Cluedo.

longtompot · 29/08/2024 12:36

The Georgian one is gorgeous but it appears to have a pub right next door to it which I suspect would put a lot of people off.

zingally · 29/08/2024 12:50

You'd need your hiking boots to get from one end of the other.

The first picture is misleading as well. It makes the house look like it's in solitary splendor in the middle of acres. But actually a road runs within touching distance of one end, and the neighbours are spitting distance out the back.

All that thatch would cost a fortune to maintain/replace as well.

This looks gorgeous. But the more I look at the floorplan, the weirder it seems. There's basically one big square-sized house with a smaller bit tacked on the side, and it's the smaller bit that's got the kitchen diner and family room, so that's where you'd end up living. It even looks like they don't use the front door and use the side one to the kitchen instead.

I'd need to move things around a bit, to make sure other rooms were actually used. But then I'm not sure what I'd use them for, so.....I guess they wouldn't be used. I'm no desperate for a games room, drawing room, library, etc. I wouldn't say no to them, of course. But I can see those kinds of rooms easily going unused. Which feels a waste.

MeMyselfandIsland · 29/08/2024 20:02

@SequinBear i thought the same! So many rooms both upstairs and down no idea how I’d utilise them all! Even a playroom, an office each etc only goes so far 😂

OP posts:
longtompot · 30/08/2024 14:16

@SequinBear see for us it would be perfect as we need rooms downstairs which can be used as bedrooms and art studios, and when a house has the right amount downstairs there are too many rooms upstairs for our needs.

MiddleAgedDread · 30/08/2024 14:21

Thatched roof and the bedrooms are tiny apart from the master

libertybonds · 30/08/2024 15:05

Feelingstrange2 · 27/08/2024 18:41

The only person I know that's ever lived in anything that big, lost a child in an accident at the other end of their "estate". I've often wondered if they would have survived if they been closer by when they fell and help could have been called quicker.

This is nightmarish

lolly792 · 30/08/2024 18:35

Thatched roof part is a big negative- cost of maintenance, risk of fire (I bet insurance premiums are through the roof)

And more than likely, location, as that trumps everything. I wouldn't be surprised if just out of shot there's some real eyesore, an industrial estate or waste ground or perhaps a site that's going to be developed. Vendors may be banking on getting a high price because of the huge space overall, but location is everything and if there's something horrendous nearby then many people wouldn't even pay half that amount
