Just saw a really interesting 1960s house

I know many people go for period properties but I do really like some 1960s houses. This one, the interior hasn't been touched since then and it has a very "mid-century modern" feel to it.

It has 3/4 acre garden and is £450k in Knottingley, W Yorks

(no connection with the property - just saw it online)

Check out this 4 bedroom detached house for sale on Rightmove

Any untouched 60 odd year old house will need rewiring, new plumbing, have zero insulation to fix those issues unfortunately you’d have to tear the place apart to fix that.

looks a bland from the outside but the inside is great….its a large house too.

Yeah, once you start having to deal with things, updating by necessity, no doubt there'll be a shit load of asbestos.

AlwaysGinPlease · 30/07/2024 18:35

MCM deliciousness. I love it! 🥰

allmycats · 30/07/2024 18:37

Such a pity it’s in the shit hole known as Knottingley

Possiblynotever · 30/07/2024 18:50

LOVE IT! But I love 1960/70s properties

lolly792 · 30/07/2024 19:40

People pay loads for that mid-century furniture now.

I like the house, but not the location

PurpleReindeer2 · 30/07/2024 19:48

Love it

Calling · 30/07/2024 20:08

It really is something special and of course designed by a good architect.
I hope very much that whoever buys it understands 1960s architecture, researches it and that any work is done sympathetically and in accordance with the special characteristics. They would need specialist advice!

It's gorgeous but am I the only one who thinks it's probably damp thanks to single glazing, a flat roof and all that wooden fascia?

I also love it, but wondered about the energy efficiency.
i also think the bedrooms are quite small.

bergamotorange · 30/07/2024 20:16

Oh that is lovely! Thanks for sharing.

Pebbles16 · 30/07/2024 20:22

I love it but couldn't live in it (makes me itchy as reminds me a lot of my past).
Covet the dining room furniture though

I don't like it at all. Inside or out.

Fair enough. No problem at all, everybody likes different types of houses.

Why should it be a problem? We need people who are brave enough to stand up and say what they really feel about things in all walks of life.

Same. Yuck

Summertimer · 30/07/2024 20:35

Wow so cheap too. You can’t get a decent 2 bed for that price here

Papyrophile · 30/07/2024 20:47

But there probably aren't a lot of jobs in the area that can fund that mortgage. It's one for the swoopers-in, who are moving out of a more expensive area.

That's a lovely house.

We have a 60s house, my wife wanted a 'character' house but when we came in here the huge windows with views of the Downs sold it to us instantly.

The downside was that in the early 60s a single electric socket at each end of a 20 foot living room and one in each bedroom was apparently enough for the needs of the day, so we had a lot of electrical work to do.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean.

Everything about it says architect!

Purplecatshopaholic · 30/07/2024 20:51

OMG, I want this house! And i don’t even know where Knottingley is! Lol

Doggymummar · 30/07/2024 20:55

No work needed. Stunning

JaffavsCookie · 30/07/2024 20:57

It’s cheap cos it’s in Knottingley. Even the guard dogs go round in pairs.

Aquamarine1029 · 30/07/2024 21:06

I absolutely LOVE it.
