Just saw a really interesting 1960s house

I know many people go for period properties but I do really like some 1960s houses. This one, the interior hasn't been touched since then and it has a very "mid-century modern" feel to it.

It has 3/4 acre garden and is £450k in Knottingley, W Yorks

(no connection with the property - just saw it online)

Check out this 4 bedroom detached house for sale on Rightmove

It's fantastic. I agree with pp, that type of architecture and interiors are very calming. Maybe it's the way they're so thought through? There's a sense of security and optimism about them.

@Glitterbiscuits my grandparents had a sideboard like that too, and I've just bought a beautiful Olaio one for €700. They're very much in fashion.

What a beautiful house!

TheLeadbetterLife · 30/07/2024 15:36

The tiles on the kitchen backsplash and next to that screen in the living room are just perfect.

I grew up with that sideboard and dining set.
It just screams old lady to me.
I don't understand how it's back in fashion

It's a great find OP but I think it looks like a council maisonette block from the outside

Oh No
The Horror 😱

catscatscurrantscurrants · 30/07/2024 15:40

It's beautiful. I love the yellow and white kitchen.

Glitterbiscuits · 30/07/2024 15:43

@Trinity65

I suspect you have misinterpreted the spirit of my remarks.

I think @CutthroatDruTheViolent made a good comparison

This style of house was primarily occupied by older people in my area.

Glitterbiscuits · 30/07/2024 15:45

@TheLeadbetterLife

Ours was Jentique! I can't remember what happened to it after my parents died. I'd never have predicted it would be desirable.

MugPlate · 30/07/2024 15:46

The tiles are Ann Wynn Reeves.

And Alan Wallwork

Papyrophile · 30/07/2024 15:52

It's lovely. The Modern House is my preferred property porn.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/07/2024 15:54

I was going to say that I'd been to that house, but on opening that link it's not the one I thought I was. I have been to a different Fred Taylor house nearby in Knottingley though, which a colleague of DH's was restoring to its original 60s glory. He sold it when the second baby came along. It was too small.

Both are lovely houses.

PickAChew · 30/07/2024 15:57

There was a lovely 1960s house with loads of original features sold near us, earlier this year. It probably has white walls and charcoal grey carpets already.

hildabaker · 30/07/2024 15:59

I'd like to know the owner - loving the artwork and artifacts.

YabaJaba · 30/07/2024 16:04

I love it!

SweetBabe · 30/07/2024 15:18

Did it used to be flats?

No, it was built as a single detached house. Although there is a self contained annexe to one side (above the garage) with a separate entrance.

That's a lovely house.

We have a 60s house, my wife wanted a 'character' house but when we came in here the huge windows with views of the Downs sold it to us instantly.

The downside was that in the early 60s a single electric socket at each end of a 20 foot living room and one in each bedroom was apparently enough for the needs of the day, so we had a lot of electrical work to do.

Oldraver · 30/07/2024 16:09

I love it, when I showed someone at work a couple of 60's/70's pieces of furniture he said "it's like my Nans furniture

Told him his Nan had great taste

SecondClassmyass · 30/07/2024 16:11

It’s a beauty. Very Mindhunter’esque

YourMumDressesYouFunny · 30/07/2024 16:13

Gorgeous, but those spiral stairs terrify me. I’d slip down those on the first day in.

Ohyoudodoyou · 30/07/2024 16:15

Thanks OP, this is one of the best UK 60's houses I've seen on Rightmove, I love the website 'the modern house' too - absolutely love the wood panelling and all the stone.
I often look at the Barbican flats as some of them keep their original features and just a wonderful look overall.

MugPlate · 30/07/2024 15:46

Thank you! Love anything like this, I went to a wonderful exhibition of Althea McNish exhibition of mid century textiles a few years back (I bought a cushion and it brings me joy each day!)

Stunning
