I doubt that many houses in the UK have aircon.

  • off street parking
  • utility room
  • attic / loft (but we do have a cellar)
  • lawn in garden
  • TV in any room other than lounge
  • En suite

Where do you keep your cutlery? We keep some of ours in drawers of our sideboard

No room for sideboard. We keep it in a cupboard on a shelf. After 18 years we have got used to it and will probably be confused when we replace kitchen and add drawers.

cold water tank - our water comes straight off the mains supply

Most modern houses don't have a cold water tank. It means that the water from any cold tap in the house is safe to drink.

Why on earth would you want a cold water tank?

I’m consfused by that too. I’m in a 400 year old house and I don’t have a cold water tank, I thought everyone’s water came off the mains?

Myblindsaredown · 08/07/2024 18:55

Actually cold water tanks still exist, I just googled, most homes have been upgraded but it seems some folks still have them, I assume a small minority.

A cheese room and a moat.

I always said my forever home would need these two features. It does not.

Our house has a tower - no moat sadly, though there is a pond the size of a bathtub!

We have a water tank in the loft - it serves the upstairs cold taps and is the header supply for the hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard.

AnnaMagnani · 08/07/2024 19:31

My house is older than 400 years and when I moved in there was a cold water tank.

That's gone but it's still immersion heater for hot water.

Got to love crap 1970s DIY plumbing.

WhydoIcaresomuch · 08/07/2024 19:45

A dishwasher! We have the space but haven’t got ourselves into gear to buy one since we moved and every night we do the dishes and I curse us for not sorting it and still we don’t buy one 🤣

MoreIcedLattePlease · 08/07/2024 19:48

A window in the bathroom. It's vile! (Rented, so nothing we can do about it)

BobbyBiscuits · 08/07/2024 19:51

No working fireplace either, but two that could work.
No couch in the front room (not my choice, I have one in my sitting room)
No working dishwasher
No cat flap (2 cats)
No mixer tap in sink in kitchen or bathroom
No doorbell
No working 'big light' in most rooms

An airing cupboard. Would love one for storing towels and bedding. My nans house had a huge double one, the hot water tank in there used to dry clothes beautifully and everything was warm and aired. Combi boilers mean that they’re becoming rarer.

When I had my combi boiler installed, I kept the airing cupboard and had a small radiator put in it. It’s great for keeping the bedding fresh and also has room for a small airer with hooks to hang the odd piece of clothing which cannot go in the dryer.

off street parking (apparently a necessity on MN)
alexa
ring doorbell
clothes line

I wouldn't buy a house without off street parking. The roads round here are narrow. I don't want to risk my car being damaged or be in the way of an emergency vehicle trying to get through. I also want to be able to park in front of my house. I don't know why you think having off road parking is "apparently" an MN necessity.

I would have thought you possessed the critical thinking skills to work that out.

Mammyloveswine · 08/07/2024 23:46

A kitchen door.. I think I realised about 3 months in 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Inlaw · 08/07/2024 23:47

A kitchen

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 08/07/2024 23:55

Gutters.

TheNoonBell · 09/07/2024 15:16

A television

RampantIvy · 09/07/2024 16:10

I love watching TV. It isn't the same watching something on the screen of a laptop/tablet/phone. Besides, there are some programmes that we all like watching. We are currently rewatching The X Files.

JadeSeahorse · 09/07/2024 16:14

No downstairs loo - but we do have one in each bathroom upstairs
No contract alarm system or Ring type doorbell - just bog standard alarm and doorbell

Xanadu58 · 09/07/2024 16:18

Lovemusic82 · 09/07/2024 16:28
