Dulux Timeless or just white? East facing

We narrowed it down to Timeless, or perhaps White Cotton / Pure Brilliant White in our large open plan downstairs area.
The room is facing W and E, my only worry with using Timeless in the East part is that it seems to look quite grey.
House is a 70s build, we tend to prefer simple/modern furniture, but not the art gallery style.

Will Timeless look murky on cloudy days?
I've probably already tried all the dulux swatches 😣

I'd like to keep the chosen colour in some other rooms too, for consistency. Thanks :)

PBW for me, every time. I'm sure it's my dodgy eyes but any other white I've tried has always ended up looking a bit either yellowish, greyish, or just a bit grubby. I've just redone our hall from the unknown shade of slightly off white it was when we bought the house, to PBW and it just looks so much cleaner and brighter.

W have Timeless in one of our rooms. It looks like a white that's yellowed over time. don't like it, and will be painting over with PBW as soon as.

We have Timeless in our NE facing hallway and living room. Its been a couple of years now and looks lovely, we really like it. Keeps the rooms feeling warm without looking too 'yellow'.

This is my worry! I've seen very conflicted opinions regarding Timeless. I think it would look great in our sunny part of the room, but my swatch page (A3) looks suspiciously like magnolia on the other side...

I have Timeless in current house which is Edwardian but had PBW in previous 60s house . Given age of your house I would do PBW.

MistyMountainTop · 09/05/2024 11:30

We've got Timeless in a north facing stairwell, it hasn't changed colour in the 10 years it's been up and still looks clean, bright and fresh.

domineastronomy · 09/05/2024 11:36

Timeless can look very grey/grubby.

Have you looked at Dulex light and space? Also ceiling spot lights

FondOfOwls · 09/05/2024 11:53

Leaning towards PWB then. We have a bit of an open plan area for the kitchen as well, but the units are cream and worktops oak- if we do white there I am sure the units would look very grubby.
Do you think doing PWB in the living/dining area and some sort of soft sage in the kitchen work? I have contacted the a decorator, maybe he'll come up with something. Everything is magnolia atm, so I guess it goes with the cream kitchen.
I normally love working with colours, but the levels of natural light really complicate things. Kitchen is dark as well!

I did but local B&Q didn't even have tester pots, I wondered if they are discontinued??

We tried that at first, it sort of slid off the wall and was very patchy

We went for timeless and regretted it. We’re really happy with firm cream

I've considered that too, is it not very yellow in the morning sun? I like how bright it seems.

Don't do it! In fairness I do think timeless looked ok when it was freshly painted but over the years it yellowed to an off magnolia. I've gradually been replacing it.

LindaDawn · 09/05/2024 14:12

We have just painted an extension (family room including snug, dinning and kitchen) in Dulux White Cotton. The room is north, west and east facing and we are very pleased with it. Looks clean, fresh and soft. Your suggestion of sage against your kitchen units sounds lovely, Never tried pure brilliant white though.

AlltheFs · 09/05/2024 14:15

We have Timeless in our dark cottage kitchen and it looks lovely, absolutely no yellow or grey at all and a million miles away from
magnolia. One window is North, one is East.

Would it help if a few on this thread posted photos? I am apprehensive because later this year we might be going with Timeless for the hall and landing - after plenty of looking at Mumsnet threads on the subject - but this has put me off a bit.

just interested in the difference between Fine Cream and Timeless as we have a sitting room to paint.

From my swatch tests it is SO difficult to tell if you'll like it as there as subtle differences in shades of those soft white and cream paints! It would be great to see some photos, but these comments put me off a bit too. I was worried it will look too grey and it is the case sometimes :(

Forgot to say a family member painted PBW over a pink bedroom in a Northwest facing bedroom as a stop gap in a new house until they could decide which colour they wanted. A year later they are keeping it PBW. It looks great.

Not sure if it shows well on the screen but the difference is quite big. Fine cream (left) looks like pure white with a drop of yellow, a clear sunny colour. Timeless (right) look a bit like a warm grey, but very very pale, almost white. I'd call it ivory. Much less saturated.

Timeless looked greyish to me... Find pbw too harsh (but have old house) really didn't like the space paint.. used Dulux trade white...in modern extension really like it .....
Although have used f&b in older bits of house

AlltheFs · 09/05/2024 14:37

This is the best photos I have (kitchen not fully finished-needed shelves and tiling behind hob).

You just need to paint large pieces of wall/lining paper and hang them in different parts of the room - the colour will look different in different peoples houses! Posting pictures wont show accurate colour.
