Panicking!

We have a dark green modern vanity.

Should we put blush coloured tile on two walls, and tiny white hexagonal tile on the floor (just the standard mosaic kind)

Or

Ivory metro tile on two walls, and ivory terrazzo on the floor?

For further context, here is a diagram of the room.

The tile will go in the shower cubicle, on the wall behind the toilet, and behind the vanity. We are getting a gold framed mirror and some gold wall lights

Sorry, I'd go blush and terrazzo. Love terrazzo.

radiatordrama · 01/05/2024 17:26

@sbplanet thanks! We have very limited time to view tiles and this blush wouldn't work that well with the terrazzo. Maybe we can duck out tomorrow and look for a less pink blush 🤔

Yeah I agree. But I just thought the ivory was a bit bland and perhaps not quite the same as the 'base field' of the terrazzo.
The terrazzo (on my screen) seems to edge more towards 'brown' than 'red', maybe a very light grey? But that's cos I always wanted terrazzo and never got them! ;)

radiatordrama · 01/05/2024 17:44

@sbplanet

Here the tiles are together.

Agreed! It may be a bit bland. I was considering painting the remaining walls Setting Plaster or similar to add a bit of warmth into the room.

I would never use tiny tiles anywhere, the thought of grout cleaning/ maintenance would put me off.

OpusGiemuJavlo · 01/05/2024 17:51

2nd option - pink with dark green would actively make me nauseous.

PickleSarnie · 01/05/2024 18:12

Small/tiny mosaic tiles on floor will be an absolutely nightmare to keep clean. We had mosaic tiles in a house we moved into. Keeping that damn grout clean was like painting the Forth Railbridge. I was so happy when we replaced the damn things.

Maybe. I suppose it depends if you want some colour 'pops'? It seems quite safe (not in a bad way) and pleasant. Very grown up. :)

heldinadream · 01/05/2024 18:15

Another fan of blush and the terrazzo. Why wouldn't they go? There's pink in the terrazzo?

rockstarshoes · 01/05/2024 18:17

I love those blush tiles! Keep those!

dudsville · 01/05/2024 18:29

I love the blus tiles with green, and I wish I'd done blush tiles. Fwiw, I prefer one tile, not themes of contrasting but matching or whatever it's called, I think it's too busy on eht eye.

caringcarer · 01/05/2024 19:15

I'm so sick of grubby looking grout in my tiles and the constant cleaning with a toothbrush that I've gone for the shower boards this time round. My sister had them about 9 years ago and they still look as good as the day she had them done.

I like the blush tiles. The ivory are fine.
I would rethink both of your floor choices. Sorry.

I like the original ivory and terrazzo combination... U can add any other colour in paint /other accessories and easier to change look...

Not sure about the blush tiles lasting as are so fashionable now ......

J0S · 01/05/2024 23:33

I have layout questions - do you want to hear theme or are you only interested in tile opinions?

abovethefold · 01/05/2024 23:37

Blush tiles with your most recent floor choice is 👌

PhDinaseive · 01/05/2024 23:41

Those irregular tiles look like they'll be difficult to clean,

minipie · 01/05/2024 23:53

Ivory and terrazzo

radiatordrama · 02/05/2024 00:17

@J0S there's limited scope to change the layout, but all opinions are welcome!

Can you mark the doors and the way they open on the plan? Including the room door, shower enclosure doors and vanity unit doors/ drawers? Your bathroom supplier should have done a room plan to scale for you.

As far as I can tell, you only have 600 between your vanity unit and your shower, is that right ? That’s not a lot of space - it will be hard to open doors / drawers or to bend down. If you bend over the sink to wash your face , your bum will hit the shower glass. If you are tall / big / pregnant it will be worse.

You only have 150mm on each side of your WC, so will be quite difficult to get in to clean the outside of the shower enclosure .

Is your 520 wide radiator a towel radiator and how tall is it ?

I think that you have allowed enough space for your fittings but not enough space to actually use them comfortably. Id be tempted to use more compact fittings in a room this size.

radiatordrama · 02/05/2024 09:26

@J0S

It's definitely going to be a little tighter than we would prefer, but it's not so grim as it first appears.

No plans from the bathroom supplier. 😕

The vanity has a drawer and the storage column will open towards the wall

We will have a pocket door.

There's actually 810 between the vanity and shower.

The radiator is a towel rail and iirc it's 1400 tall
