Panicking!

We have a dark green modern vanity.

Should we put blush coloured tile on two walls, and tiny white hexagonal tile on the floor (just the standard mosaic kind)

Blush tiles: https://www.mystonefloor.com/products/primrose-blush-gloss-metro-tiles?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwrcKxBhBMEiwAIVF8rF7IoFaLCan0kF_NqkO1Rebxagyvs6uJEbs63N0Ezmmqzlbl7HvethoCllUQAvD_BwE

Or

Ivory metro tile on two walls, and ivory terrazzo on the floor?

So far, terrazzo and ivory are coming out ahead, just barely!

I will post photos of the finished project

Do you have enough money to redo you shower when the Victorian public toilets look becomes dated?

radiatordrama · 02/05/2024 09:38

@GettingStuffed I honestly don't know what you mean

Blush and dark green is very in right now

If you’re sure you’ll still like in 5 years then that’s fine but be sure you’re choosing it because you love it and not because it’s everywhere and you’ve been subconsciously influenced (I get influenced very easily by the looks “of the moment”)

I tend to think erring on the bland side is correct for tiles as they are basically impossible to change. As you say you can add colour with paint.

What a silly thing to say. Most things ‘date’ over time but of all the tiles to choose from, metro tiles are probably the most durable. You said it yourself, they’ve lasted since Victorian times.

Our bedroom is already blush and dark greenBlush

This shower room is on a different floor...but I admit that the trendiness and saminess of it to our bedroom is giving me a bit of pause.

Oh, is this about metro tiles?

The house is Victorian and I am not really that worried about having Victorian fittings tbh. Hence the idea of tiny hexagon tiles.

Both schemes are lovely but I agree with pp to avoid small tiles as keeping lots of grouting clean is a nightmare. I love dark green and pale pink and have had that colour combo in my bedroom for the last 4 years but I know when I get bored of it it’s a quick paint job. Replacing tiles is a much bigger and more costly job so you need to think if you’ll still love it in 5/10 years time. For that reason I usually stick to fairly neutral bathrooms and add colour with paint etc.

Sounds like we have similar tastes in bedrooms!

Here is my bedroom, before being furnished😊

My head is spinning. Maybe we just get these large square tiles and basic metro tiles and paint the walls blush

No, no, no, no! You need terrazzo! :D ;)
Metro, blush painted wall and terrazzo! 👌

Mamette · 02/05/2024 10:21

I voted for terrazzo but I’m also going to post this just to emphasise that I think you should go for terrazzo!

TattiePants · 02/05/2024 10:22

Gorgeous room @radiatordrama, very similar to mine! That last bathroom picture is similar to mine (you can just see the white metro tiles above the basin) but if you love the terrazzo tiles then go with those.

@J0S

It's definitely going to be a little tighter than we would prefer, but it's not so grim as it first appears.

No plans from the bathroom supplier. 😕

The vanity has a drawer and the storage column will open towards the wall

We will have a pocket door.

There's actually 810 between the vanity and shower.

The radiator is a towel rail and iirc it's 1400 tall

Ok that space is better, I was calculating it from 900 deep shower + 600 deep vanity = 1500. Wall width is 2100.

tall towel rail is good, also vanity drawer. Is still be worked about the 150mm to get in to clean the glass screen, esp if you WC pan is square.

If I were you I’d mock up the room with random bits if stiff and move around it in. Esp the 2.1 M high pillar for your shower cubicle right in the middle.

radiatordrama · 31/05/2024 00:12

@radiatordrama
It has yet to be painted, but here's the current state of things.

J0S · 31/05/2024 16:23

Are you going for blush pink walls? I assume that’s the bare plaster .

radiatordrama · 31/05/2024 18:13

@J0S yes (probably) on blush walls. That is indeed bare plaster!

OP posts:
WitchyWay · 31/05/2024 18:20

Ivory, the blush will date quickly. If you want blush, I'd be using towels , accessories or art to add the colour, that way, when you're bored, you can switch it up. Having ivory all round will also help the unit to pop.

Definitelylivedin · 31/05/2024 18:23

Are you planning on staying put, or selling at some point.

If you are staying go for the blush.

If selling go as neutral as possible, and definitely not pink in a bathroom.

Toomuchgoingon79 · 31/05/2024 18:31

I'd go for pink accessories as a colour pop and a more natural tile, easier to change when you get bored!

radiatordrama · 31/05/2024 18:56

@Cofaki beautiful tiles, but we have gone for the safest (white) option. See photos above!
