Has anyone used Anglian for windows?

CheckeredAliceBand · 18/04/2024 11:54

I need some new windows, will have to upvc for cost reasons, would rather use a company who recycle upvc into new windows and Anglian do this. I have them coming out next week to survey and quote. Has anyone used them? Are they a) reasonable price wise, b) reliable and decent quality?

TIA

I did 5 years ago. No problems apart from an adjustment needed with patio doors which was sorted out quickly under the guarantee. Got a small discount for displaying their sign outside (which I removed as soon as the fitter drove off)

Validus · 18/04/2024 11:58

I did.

try and get a different quote in advance so you know the right ballpark.

they also do the ‘discount if you agree today’ thing - which we did because we were happy with the price, but it would have been good to have more quotes first.

very happy with the result though. Plan to use them again on the new house

Thanks, useful info and advice 😃

I didn't. They were about five times the price of a local firm. Definitely get other quotes so you can compare and don't feel compelled to fall for their huge discount if you agree right now spiel. I think if they have to do that and can afford to discount so heavily they are not being transparent about the true cost. I much preferred the firm that gave me time to think and didn't drop their prices significantly for immediate sign up.

They do the hard sell. Be prepared for a 2-3 hr session and to stick to your guns.

CheckeredAliceBand · 18/04/2024 14:25

Ok, I'll be prepared.

If you don’t go with them be prepared for them to pester you forever more with follow up calls. Basically they do not take no for an answer.

Roselilly36 · 18/04/2024 14:36

I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole tbh, I had the misfortune of having them quote when we needed our soffits and gutters replaced, the quote was £18.5k! 😂 really pushy sales guy, and you will get constant follow up calls, had them done by a recommended local firm for £3200.

Saschka · 18/04/2024 14:39

They hard sell. Their initial quote is usually about 3 to 4 times more than everyone else’s, and then they will keep ringing you with “special deals if you agree today”. The special deals are still more than their competitors. We went with an independent supplier and were very happy with both the price and service.

Yep this was basically our experience, £30k for 6 replacement windows, gradually knocked down to about £15k “special offer”. Ended up paying £8k from an independent (they were massive Georgian double-glazed sash windows).

Icanseethebeach · 18/04/2024 14:42

I used to work for them. I wouldn’t use them.

InAMillion · 18/04/2024 14:44

I used a local company and they were great

You need a well known name

We just had some uPVC windows (local firm). It used to be that the windows were always proud of the frame with PVC but they can now make them flush so they look more like traditional wooden windows

Cadela · 18/04/2024 14:52

I had them for front door, moving a back door, new back door and moving and enlarging a window.

All done within 2 days! They were absolutely fab. Left everything really clean and tidy (even hoovered which I appreciated!). This was back in 2020 and had no issues. Cost around £7k if I remember correctly.

Mercurial123 · 18/04/2024 15:11

I always find small local businesses are more competitive compared to large national companies.

CheckeredAliceBand · 18/04/2024 15:14

I was wary tbh. I only came to them because of the recycling issue tbh. I'd rather not have virgin upvc and I also want my old windows to be recycled and not landfilled. I'll phone some local people and ask about that.

I get this is probably an individual fitter thing in part, but our neighbours used them for all their window replacements and had a nightmare. Windows were delayed for weeks and then several had to be refitted due to poor initial install. They now say frequently that they'd never use them again or recommend them, they also didn't find Anglian customer service helpful at all in resolving this.

TamarindJelly · 18/04/2024 15:48

We had a v bad experience getting a quote from them. They knew we were getting other quotes as well and weren't going to decide on the day - we made this really clear to them. Nevertheless we got the 2 hour high pressure sales experience, starting with an absurdly inflated price and then offering increasingly big reductions if we signed up there and then.

We were starving and so was our baby (went on way past dinner time). I was far too naive and polite with my hints at first and didn't realise what was going on. Eventually I just told him to leave. The fucker still wouldn't go until I basically threw him out.

Then we got phone calls for weeks, offering increasing "discounts" - final price was about 10% of their original quote (which shows how dishonest their quoting system is). By that time we'd had the job done by a much better company and I told Anglian to fuck off.

Wouldn't touch that company with anyone's bargepole.

annlee3817 · 18/04/2024 22:27

They use old fashioned sales tactics, we were quoted for a new door, and it was a ridiculous price of around £5000 and we said no, then he offered on the day discount to bring it down to around £3000, again we said no (just a front door) we then had a phone call a few days later reducing it to £2500, then a call from the area manager the following week reducing to £1800, by this time I was pissed off, because clearly the original quote was absolute bollocks, so I refused to use them based on their tactics

insidenumber4 · 18/04/2024 22:30

We used them in 2019 for new sound proof glazing (next to a main road). Found them really helpful, quote was decent compared to the others we gathered and the fitter they sent was lovely.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/04/2024 16:56

I wouldn't use them, they came to quote to replace a conservatory, went away to calculate the cost and then refused to tell me the price over the phone and insisted they could only tell me the price if they could come back to the house, although I had said it would be a waste of both of our times if the price was too high.

I then got regular phone calls pestering me for a return visit, to which I always said that until they tell me the price there was no point.

We went with another company.

LadyLindaT · 19/04/2024 17:06

My Anglian experience was so-so. The crew were a bit "bish-bash-bosh", and it was only later that I discovered the slipshod plastering underneath the windows. On the whole, I would try to find a local firm. Anglian are really a finance company. They don't really want you to pay any other way; they just want you to sign a finance agreement. I am not saying that it's fraudulent, just that it seems to be their business model. They also will pester.

Ihavethis2 · 19/04/2024 17:20

We’ve used the and they were really good. What I like also is the guarantee and the fact they probably still will be in business in 10 years if anything goes wrong. Our quote was reasonable but the sales guy gave me a tip & said you get the best deals right at the end of the month as they are trying to make their targets & I got a good deal. It was just luck I got quoted at the end of the month rather than the beginning!

ListToHunt · 19/04/2024 17:26

Family member worked for them (briefly). I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!
