This sink unit is hideous but useful storage and we can't spare the funds right now to replace.

Needs suggestions of how to make the best of it.
Change handles??
Paint the blue glass white??
Fablion the glass?
Paint the whole unit?? If so what colour?

Have Matt black mirror above sink and Matt black toilet roll holder.
Grey wood effect flooring
Tiles are a creamy colour

Change the handles and paint the cupboards but leave the sink and glass - I would imagine any attempt to change them would look pretty rubbish. Whatever colour you fancy really although black is the obvious choice given what else is in there. For handles Knobbles & Bobbles are great for fun options, or PlankHardware for posh.

TheOneWithUnagi · 15/04/2024 21:53

Agree change the handles and paint the doors. You would fill and sand the current handle holes and add whichever ones take your fancy.

You can go for any colour you like on the doors really as you don't seem to have strong colours, corston architectural have lovely cupboard hardware.

Janetime · 15/04/2024 21:56

I’d paint the cupboards the same green as the glass. Use matt paint. And add nice brass handles.

Seaside3 · 15/04/2024 22:55

I'd look on facebook or freecycle for a replacement. Sorry I don't think you can make it look better.

parietal · 15/04/2024 23:03

If you paint the doors, I'd put fablon of the same colour over the white cone of sink below the glass. Otherwise you'll have beautiful painted doors and an odd white cone.

I'd probably do matt black doors & cone with round brass handles.

Callistaraines · 16/04/2024 09:25

Hmm hadn't thought about painting the same colour as the glass. Might make the white sink look less harsh??

I think so. Take a pic and go to any colour matching centre like b&q, so basically Dulux, valspar etc, and ask them to blend you a small pot in washable matt. If you don’t like it painting over it is easy enough, I just think black would be a bit much.

then put some lovely modern handles on it,

Thank you for yoour thoughts.
I picked up some handles from Homebase just to give an idea of what they would look like.

Also on closer inspection the curved 'sink' is actually part of the unit rather than ceramic

Surely any colour on cabinet is going to make that (very odd) sink look even worse?

I would paint it bright glossy-ish white to blend with sink, then put lovely handles on the drawers to draw the eye and stop people looking too closely (maybe ceramic with some similar colour to glass, as below?).

Not washable Matt
I'd get Johnstones and rustoleum cupboard paint. You can paint both straight on but with a primer would be better

GoFaster83 · 16/04/2024 10:16

Ok, I know it's awful, but I kind of love it! I'd embrace! Maybe get a similarly awful light shade (if you don't have spot lights) or a toilet seat in a matching colour. Aim to get towels/ bath mats etc to match. (Although as someone who currently has a poo bag tied over the hot tap to remind me not to use it or it will never turn off, I'm not really the person to give opinions....)

PTSDBarbiegirl · 16/04/2024 10:25

I'd also paint the doors glossy white, use a primer. I'd choose the greeny glass @MuscariFan roundish handles. They echo the green of the glass on sink. Paint doors to blend with sink. Buy a few morrocan type tile samples to tile across your existing tiles and paint the wall behind very dark navy or black and hang a huge cheap mirror behind sink. Spray paint edging of mirror in brass colour. Buy new towels in and put rattan storage on sink with everything else in cupboards.

Greyat · 16/04/2024 10:30

I actually really like the sink and the glass. I think bright white gloss on the cupboard and really chunky vertical bar handles.

Callistaraines · 16/04/2024 10:31

It's actually an en-suite solely used by my teenage daughter. She's not keen on adding more turquoise. 😬 she likes pink but I'm not painting pink! Mirror is relatively new so not planning on changing that sadly.

If you want it to blend in, this is good advice.

It’s In a bathroom though so she needs paint that is suitable for that. Matt bathroom or matt washable would do it.

I reckon a pale powdery pink would be nice with it, actually.

Callistaraines · 16/04/2024 11:11

Pink?

Pink will look awful. I would go white or duck egg and change the handles and mirror

MuscariFan · 16/04/2024 11:15

Callistaraines · 16/04/2024 11:11

Pink?

God, no, sorry - not the unit pink - I thought you meant the walls (and even then I meant a softer paler pink than that!).

SoupDragon · 16/04/2024 11:16

I'd go with gloss white.

I think the pink looks dreadful (but I hate pink so might be prejudice).

can you remove the glass worktop and replace it with an off cut from somewhere like Ikea's bargain corner?

fedupandstuck · 16/04/2024 11:19

What about getting rid of handles completely and having touch open/close fittings instead? I'd also paint it white, rather than try to colour match the sink.
