Help me up cycle this monstrosity

This sink unit is hideous but useful storage and we can't spare the funds right now to replace.

Needs suggestions of how to make the best of it.
Change handles??
Paint the blue glass white??
Fablion the glass?
Paint the whole unit?? If so what colour?

Have Matt black mirror above sink and Matt black toilet roll holder.
Grey wood effect flooring
Tiles are a creamy colour

I really like it, sorry I'm no help whatsoever.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 16/04/2024 11:31

I don't like the black handle. The design idea behind the existing one is that it mirrors the curves on the unit. The colour knobs might work.

Callistaraines · 16/04/2024 11:47

Glad the general consensus was not paint the unit pink. We all hated it! 😂

So currently thinking

I actually really like the sink😂

Since it's your teenage daughter's en suite I'd let her choose what yo do to upcycle. I think though that the sink unit is the least of it and it's the hardest thing to change, it does have a certain retro charm and is practical whereas the rest of the room is just a bit blah.

I'd paint the walls, woodwork and ceiling a colour of your daughter's choice and encourage her to declutter (I see several toothbrushes out for example) and clear the sink surround of anything ugly. Agree with PPs that pullìng in the colour of the glass somewhere else in the room will make the room feel more cohesive, it doesn't need to be a big thing, just a lampshade or some pretty storage bottles to repeat that blue glass elsewhere.

Janetime · 16/04/2024 12:07

I also quite like it. I think gloss white is a terrible idea, not just as gloss yellows, but it would be more a cheap look. I don’t like the black handle either, but I like the shape of it, more modern.

on seeing it I also think black would be a terrible colour to paint it.

Alchemistress · 16/04/2024 12:11

It would look a lot better without the clutter on the top. I think some of the problem is not having anything breaking up the horizontal line of the room - a tall slim cabinet to the right of the sink would draw the eye upwards and stop you focussing on the sink. I think changing the handles for round ones would stop the matchy matchy element of them echoing the sink shape too.

Serendipity24 · 16/04/2024 12:11

I wouldn't do black handles. How about having matching knobs/handles with the glass surface? I would also do matt white, not gloss.

It has a style of it's own, a bit hideous, but I think you might make it worse. I would leave it alone until you do the room and then sell it, someone will love it.

Something like this, but on a softer blue green matching the glass.

Revelatio · 16/04/2024 12:21

I think the handles are the best bit!! I honestly think it would better to embrace the retro chic. Painting is going to look awful, unless you’re getting a professional in to do it.

If it’s only your daughter who is going to see it I would let her have it as a project and she can do whatever she wants with it.

coffeetofunction · 16/04/2024 12:25

Don't paint it, use a vinyl wrap

pimplebum · 16/04/2024 12:41

Declutter the top, ( put stuff in drawer) and put nice plants plants or nice pots to put things in

FreeTheBeast · 16/04/2024 13:20

I'd do no handles and let your daughter pick the colour, even if she picks pink.

@Callistaraines just get someone to wrap the unit drawers. it looks fairly new and the sink looks an unusual shape from looking at it in this perspective. quite a diamond shape as opposed to the semi cirle of normal sink mounts/ does the glass only look blue/green due to the thickness of the glass?
