Hang on, is the Rver Nene actually pronounced ‘Nennay’, the way the voiceover of the video tour does? I have always called it ‘Neen’ in my head, though not sure I’ve ever said it aloud.

Yewtown · 02/03/2024 08:49

I think it has loads of potential. I think I would balance the windows between the lower and upper floors. The single door looks a bit daft so i would incorporate it into the windows and make it floor to ceiling french doors with a pane either side. Some planting would soften it considerably and the fake grass should be removed.

Nothingbuttheglory · 02/03/2024 08:51

Getting the shopping in would be a 'mare because the dumb waiter doesn't look that big. Maybe 2 shopping bags at a time? So put them in, send the dumb waiter up, walk up the stairs yourself, unload the thing, send it back down, walk down the stairs again, load it up again, walk up the stairs again, etc etc. A full week's shopping would be 3 or 4 trips. I definitely cba.

Icequeen01 · 02/03/2024 09:23

I rather like it but my initial worry would not be how to make it look prettier but that someone would build on the land behind the house. I live in a lovely area where farmers are selling lots of their land to builders. Some gorgeous houses near me, which had lovely views, are now looking over housing estates.

measurey · 02/03/2024 09:30

It can be amazing! Get rid of tacky fake grass, tarmac and install some life.. Maybe some flamed wood cladding on the outside. Then slowly update the builder standard magnolia carpets walls bathrooms to something with more character. It's lovely light and airy though definitely lots of potential. I can't believe the price... I live in an area where a two bed flat goes for this price 😂

Persipan · 02/03/2024 10:06

I would get some really big indoor plants.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 02/03/2024 10:14

I really like it and it’s well presented. Perhaps you need to drop the asking price? I don’t think there’s much you can do, looks wise.

Bringtheweatherwithyou · 02/03/2024 11:06

I think you’d have that work completed for far less than £125K and then have the house you want?

Mynewnameis · 02/03/2024 11:09

I'd just do the garden. Lovely house.

MissingMoominMamma · 02/03/2024 11:11

Plants!!

Get rid of the astroturf.

Get some mid century furniture.

It will look fabulous!

senua · 02/03/2024 11:39

. demolish the bricks/steps going up to the front door
. create a new front door where the gym/storage area is (thus creating a nice hallway)
. add a window where the original door is

I think that these are excellent suggestions. The removal of the steps will give you some front garden to play with, too. On second thoughts, looking closer, it seems that the steps (and the continuation round the side of the house) might be part of the fabric of the building. Is getting rid that easy?

Do you need double-doors for the garage? - I think that I would be tempted to make it single-door so that it doesn't dominate the front elevation quite so much. And make it a different colour, obviously.

However, I still think that it is overpriced to start with (it's only 3-bed, you can get 4-bed locally for cheaper) and the additional cost of alterations will not see much return for your money.

ThePoshUns · 02/03/2024 12:24

Yes I'd try to reconfigure to put a front door at ground level and make the front of the house more attractive. I think I'd paint it white or render or clad it in some way.

lndnbrdge91 · 02/03/2024 15:03

I really don't think it's that bad! In terms of selling it the furniture may be better removed - or items put in that sit better with the era/design of the house. The sofas look dated, and the bedding could be more contemporary.

The kitchen has potential to be quite striking; I would remove some of the personal things like the calendar on the wall and add a few plants/greenery to the interior.

I think it has potential and buyers will
Mostly look past the personal taste of the current style with a few tweaks.

CrispsnDips · 03/03/2024 08:23

Oh crikey, no bath! Something else to add to the list of jobs required 😆

if I was to offer on this, I would try £580,000 as there needs to be money spent on it to make it look nicer

if I wanted to do everything on a bit of a budget, I would just grey clad/paint white the whole house, remove fake grass, gravel the front drive, paint the garage door, plant trees/plants everywhere and get rid/paint over all the orange pine ☺️

It’s a bit of an ‘ugly duckling’ but has potential as it’s in a fantastic area

Get rid of the hideous wooden ceilings for a start.

It isn’t orange pine, though. The ceilings and joinery are oak, and the kitchen is walnut. I’d definitely keep both. They’re part of the style of the house. I think painting them white would look wrong.

PrimalLass · 03/03/2024 11:44

I'd leave the ceilings and change the walnut kitchen doors.

Bobskeleton · 03/03/2024 11:48

First thing would be to pull up the fake grass and put a lovely real lawn down.

The balcony is quite imposing.

I’ve spent weeks imagining what it might be like to live in this house but, when it comes to actually signing on the dotted line, I don’t think ultimately it’s for us 😌

I can't believe this house ever got planning permission, it's hideous. I 2nd what others say about the fake grass. I also hate the raised brick patio area, it's really ugly. I'm wondering what it costs to heat with such high ceilings. Unlike others, I think a tarmac driver is nicer than block paving which is often uneven. Personally though I'd tear down & rebuild.

To be fair, it does say it’s energy efficient- as that was the architect’s brief.

D20 · 04/03/2024 17:54

It’s not that bad. Definitely fixable and most houses of that era might need the usual cosmetic work.

The red shed looks like it might have a sex pond in it with windows for the neighbours to see in 😜. Get rid of that, the decking and fake grass. Add some pillars to support the upper balcony and create a faux lower balcony with some nice patterned floor tiles. Some sympathetic landscaping and it would look transformed.

I think there might be space to create a small narrow window in gym making it a more versatile living or bedroom and add value for a very low cost.

It reminds me of Shnordic (insta) home. Pale wooden flooring throughout and loosing the magnolia will give an instant lift.

Kitchen and dumb waiter not really to my taste but looks quality. If it’s a German brand you’d likely be able to swap out the walnut doors for something else for a a couple of grand.

Pacifybull · 04/03/2024 18:00

Is there no front door? The one on the ground floor leads straight into a bedroom.

indecisivewoman81 · 04/03/2024 18:33

I think it needs a bit of colour and some layering of fabrics to make it seem more homely.

I would try a rug, painting and plant in the bedroom
