Reminds me of my Nans house in Southampton. It was a 30s build. She is now 98 and in her 50s that would have been her taste, although she preferred a pink bathroom.

TheNoonBell · 28/02/2024 13:29

Amazing time capsule. It reminds me of visiting relatives as a kid.

ConsistentlyElectrifiedElves · 28/02/2024 13:43

Gosh my Gran used to have that dining room wallpaper!

That kitchen must have cost a fortune when it was fitted.

It'll make a fabulous home for someone, though not sure of the area so can't judge the price in comparison to a local "updated" version.

UtterlyOtterly · 28/02/2024 13:45

I love the bathroom, I wouldn't change that.

I also love the kitchen, I grew up with cabinets like that.

Apart from the carpets I could live with it all.

JellyBeanFactory · 28/02/2024 14:30

I can imagine a 70s/80s sitcom being filmed here. Love it!

CattingAbout · 28/02/2024 14:37

I could live with the carpets (for a bit anyway) but those sunken ceiling lights are really awful.

Love the kitchen!

WinkyTinky · 28/02/2024 14:39

I am having it just for the stained glass porthole windows 😍

LaPalmaLlama · 28/02/2024 14:46

I would put good money on busy carpets coming back into fashion in the next 5 years and everyone suddenly deciding they look great.

The house is v cool.

Rosestulips · 28/02/2024 17:23

I like it. I’d have to change decor/carpets etc but I think I would anyway wherever I moved to. Unless it was all brand new untouched. My first house was an absolute eyesore when we first moved in.

I live in a 1960s house and want really lairy retro carpet. Very hard to find.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 28/02/2024 17:47

Very similar style to my house, although we have updated ours! However, I love that bathroom and would keep it, with the exception of the flooring.

They have some in my local carpet shop.
My mum was buying boring old grey carpet and I was looking at all the old swirly ones.
Maybe you and I will be the first ones to get some #trendsetters

BlastedPimples · 28/02/2024 19:51

I bet that was a great family home. I felt all nostalgic looking at the pictures.

Busy carpet and wallpaper going on though.

LittleSnowdropsHeraldingSpring · 28/02/2024 19:54

It’s an old person’s house who has probably died or gone into care.
It’s clearly been looked after and cared for.
these threads to laugh at HOMES and hold them up to ridicule just aren’t in the spirit of MN. It’s nasty and sad.

penjil · 28/02/2024 21:11

I love it. Especially the bedroom. Cream, clean and comfortable. No clutter, but not minimalist either. Just cosy. And classy.

NashvilleQueen · 28/02/2024 21:14

A fabulous house. The proportions are excellent and it's got lots of light. Beautiful gardens. You can see it's a solid well built property.

Lulu1919 · 28/02/2024 21:14

Love the kitchen and bathroom tiles

Gingernaut · 28/02/2024 21:15

I'd keep that bathroom.

The whole house could be gorgeous with slightly less busy carpets.

StarlightLime · 28/02/2024 21:17

PieAndLattes · 28/02/2024 08:05

I actually love that. Sure it could do with some updating, but it’s immaculate and has been kept beautifully. You could easily live in it and carry out the renovations bit by bit.

Agreed.

Teenangels · 28/02/2024 21:20

I love the bathroom.

Someone spent a lot of money late 70:early 80s, it’s been loved and cared for.

The House was someone’s pride and joy.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 28/02/2024 21:21

The modern television in photo 15 looks decidedly out of place.

I bet it needs a full electrical rewire.

But I love it, I'd have it in a heartbeat if I had the right money.

Strictlymad · 28/02/2024 21:25

Wow! For the naysayer’s- most houses that ‘need modernising’ in estate agent speak are run down, tired and down right filthy (I know- I bought one) this maybe old fashioned but it’s immaculate! You could live in it no issue and update as and when.unlike the emergency gut job we had to do…

No one's laughing at it.

I shared it for others who are interested in interiors, architecture and design.

That's amazing. It's like a snapshot from the past. You'd think that there is a film crew that would love it.

FrustatedAgain · 29/02/2024 11:39

That's a fantastic house on a great plot, the agent is right it has bags of potential. It looks like it has really been loved and looked after. Its rare to see such dated decor still in such good condition. Someone who loves that era might choose to even keep some of those features.
