It's in the wall as you can see and in the cupboard behind us a pump. I ideally want to replace the silver hose and the shower head.
The brand says aqa lease.

Can’t see any photo but you can buy replacement shower heads and hoses easily from Amazon.

What I'm worried about is how I get it into the wall and sizes etc? Do I need to match the shower head with pump? Would I be able to go into bathroom shop and get one?
Do they come as a pack with the hose?

Do I need a plumber to fit it.
Thank you

If it’s just the hose and head you want to replace you can usually just unscrew them and screw the replacement on. How old is the shower? Aqualisa have very good customer service, if you know the model (or maybe just send them a picture) they should be able to advise you if they still have parts for it, or whether a standard replacement will fit.

hedgehoglurker · 25/02/2024 20:40

It should unscrew at this point. Any standard replacement hose should fit.

If it doesn't unscrew, it is probably due to the build up of limescale, so use a descaler to loosen.

Aqualisa sell spares, that's an old built in valve mixer shower, but you just you need a replacement hose and a shower head. These are interchangeable between most models.

You can unscrew and replace, you don't need to turn the water off at the mains, you don't need a plumber, you don't need to "get into the wall", it will take you about five minutes.

@nc42day
Please don't make it sound that easy because I've been putting it off for years thinking it's a big job. 😂.

I'm sure when a plumber came around for something else I asked and he made it sound complicated and I'm sure it had a leak once and we got someone to bind it up.

@hedgehoglurker thank you, so the part sticking out a little like a tap should be solid into the wall and I should be able to unscrew that part.

Hose

Pick a shower head according to budget/what you want it to look like

They will all fit, you don't need to speak to Aqualisa but if you would like to you can just tell them you've got a "built in valve mixer shower"

Yes, exactly. It is two parts, but looks like one (due to the limescale build up over the join).

Before you buy a replacement hose just check if the ends of the original are both coneshaped as in the above picture or whether one is a cone and one a nut, that will help you get the right one. Also measure the diameter of the existing hose as they can vary. I mistakenly bought a standard diameter which I think was about 8 mm but the flow strength was much less than previously, turned out I needed a wide-bore hose which I then bought, problem solved.

Soontobe60 · 25/02/2024 21:12

My hose will sometimes seem to leak, but it’s only if I have turned to dial a bit too far over when turning the main shower head off.
why do you want to replace it?

Oooh jumping on the thread. Removed my shower hose and tried to clean it. Didn't work. Put it back on til I got a new one and can't get it off again. I've tried descaling, pliers and my son who's stronger than me 😂 Any other ideas? OP might need this info if it doesn't unscrew! 🙏

parietal · 25/02/2024 21:28

you don't need a model number, there is a standard size for 90% of shower hoses in the uk.

Showerhose · 25/02/2024 21:44

Thank you everyone for all your help, I can't believe how easy it all seems. I'm extremely grateful for people taking to the time to reply on such a boring but irritating issue.

Have you tried soaking shower head in vinegar to remove lime scale and cleaning each hole with dental flossing brush It may be you would not need to replace shower head only the hose. Also could wrap cloth soaked in vinegar around where hose attaches to wall which could aid unscrewing.

WhoStoleMySpoons · 25/02/2024 23:12

Just a thought, last time I replaced my shower hose I bought a smooth plastic one. It's much easier to clean, there are no ridges for the black gunk to collect in.

Showerhose · 26/02/2024 07:11

@mouse70 yes I have, I've never had the hose off to clean but I have with the shower head and it's damaged from 16 years of scraping and poking it etc.

Showerhose · 26/02/2024 07:11

@WhoStoleMySpoons didn't know they exist I'll look into that as well. Thank you

You could try squirting some wd40 into the join, and leave to soak for a bit. I also find rubber gives a good grip. I have a rubber wrench, but gloves or a rubber band might just give you enough grip.

Update :

I showed dh this thread and he's got a hose that looks to fat.

He s says the hose width does not matter its the top part.

However to my eye it looks longer.
