House painting cost

I think he really really doesn’t want to do it. Just had lovely guy round to quote. Promise I’ll be back to tell you how much but what’s the most ridiculous price you can think of and double it. Not to re render, just paint. Our house looks like this 🏡, semi detached, will need scaffolding.

Well, in the absence of other comments, my serious answer is 2500.
But that will be very dependant on location, and I live in the cheap part of the NE.

Sewaccidentprone · 25/02/2024 17:18

Is it just painting the masonry? All 3 sides? And woodwork?

Just masonry 3 sides - £8,000

Lamelie · 25/02/2024 17:41

Thanks both! He’s trying it on I think. Zone 2 London but easy access- free on street parking and a driveway so none of the things that I would imagine makes a tradesman’s heart sink. I’ve asked the road book group and not had any answers yet. Masonry and woodwork, needs scaffolding, will take 5 weeks…
Drumroll…

Yes, he doesn't want the job Shock

Lamelie · 25/02/2024 17:55

I’ve just texted him asking him confirm his quote- maybe it was 3-5 thousand? 😂

spottedinthewilds · 25/02/2024 18:02

No, that's either a typo or he is painting the house with gold paint.

Ametora · 25/02/2024 18:04

Scaffolding will be £3-4 k though alone

Onegingerhead · 25/02/2024 18:23

DH is in this trade and I showed him the pic. He says he can’t really tell as it depends on the state of woodwork and if the windows are wood and not plastic.. but his wildest guess was £8000. We are not in the cheapest part of the country..
Lol. The guy doesn’t want the job.

£35,000

Absolutely ridiculous. He clearly just doesn't want the job.

Funnily enough he has confirmed that that is platinum finish 😂
There are other price range- bronze, silver and gold.

Sorry meant to quote @spottedinthewilds who wondered whether it’s for gold paint.

That's mad! Surely he means £3,500?! We had ours done about 5 years ago and was £1,800 (though he managed with ladders, another quote we got said he'd need scaffolding so would be £2,500).

TwentyFirstCenturyOracle · 25/02/2024 18:54

Oh no, our house needs painted

Quizine · 25/02/2024 19:05

Not in London. I had the back house walls done and the reveals and sills sanded down and repainted. They also put special paint on the downpipes and and other plumbing stuff (that was black), and did it same light colour as walls. Looks bloody great. The front done aswell, although that is brick, so it was only the reveals and sills. 1.5k the lot and they supplied the paint too. Very clean work. No scaffolding required though, just a ladder. I'm delighted with it, so fresh and clean looking and worth every penny. Recommendation from a friend, and they are a legit painting and decorating company with a premises for the vans etc. not far from my friend.

I actually thought the guy was joking when he gave me the quote, so I was afraid to look astonished! I suppose it was an easy enough job for them as it didn't require any special treatments or anything.

newhousenewhouse · 25/02/2024 19:08

I've been quoted £2,500 for a 5 bed although we are in the south west. There is a lot of work to do on smoothing down the walls too x

Oldermum84 · 25/02/2024 19:21

Oh and ours took 5 days, one chap (not 5 weeks?!?!).

MavisTheMonkey · 25/02/2024 19:33

I live in zone 5, south east London and have a similar mock Tudor house- maybe a bit bigger than yours. We had it painted around 2 years ago and it was £2,500. He was cheap as he unexpectedly had a big job fall through last minute and was wanting to fill the diary, so adjusting for that, location and cost increases £5-7k should be the ball park range in my mind.

Lamelie · 25/02/2024 19:39

Thanks all! @MavisTheMonkey I’m pm’ing you- if it’s not a bother please could I have his details. We’re local to you.

My four story Victorian terrace cost £5500 and that's including scaffolding and paint... (and in the South East.) Oh, and it was last year. It's got to be 3 - 5,000, surely... !

Hugmorecats · 25/02/2024 20:06

I paid about £650 for my three bed terraced house to be painted last summer (front and back). It took three days. Admittedly scaffolding was not needed as it’s only two storeys high, he just used a long roller

No I double checked 🤯
Family WhatsApp is going crazy with jokes about gold leaf and holding ladders.
I have a lead from lovely @MavisTheMonkey

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 26/03/2024 21:19
