The lounge reminds me of something you'd see in a magazine at the time and the bathroom is the best I've ever seen. Every box ticked. I can't fathom how a lounge that big fits inside.

This is an area near me and I keep looking at it like "what a project..."

That's a great project - no character whatsoever!
Lots of potential.

AnOldCynic · 02/02/2024 18:03

Oo want!

GoldenTea · 02/02/2024 20:22

Those stone and shells around the bathroom sink are a new one on me!

What is it with sneering at other people's taste.

Generally it would be called bullying.

If you want to, please post photos of your own houses so I can take the piss out of you.

My parents had pretty much the exact same kitchen in the early 80s - I think that style reigned for quite some time. If you go to the US, a surprising number of kitchens still look like that.

One of my older siblings had that style kitchen in the house they brought which was built in the early 90s.

A friend's parents also had that style kitchen put in around the same time. Their kitchen was very expensive even though they got a discount.

Posters aren't sneering.

There are plenty on the thread who love it all or parts of it.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 02/02/2024 21:06

It's like my mum and dad house in Spain, I love it

It has definite probate sale vibes, so I doubt there's anyone around who'd get offended if they saw the thread.

SweetBirdsong · 02/02/2024 21:12

I quite like it. 😆 Is it really very 1970s though? I wouldn't call this a retro timewarp 1970s home. More like late 1980s/early 1990s

You must live in a mansion. By bathroom is about 5ft by 6ft.

Your bathroom is 5ft X 6ft? Confused I assume you are excluding the bath, as that alone would be 5 ft long, by 2 and a half foot wide! You would have no room for the loo and sink - Or indeed to move (if it were that small!)

What on earth are you on about? Confused

The vast majority of posters are saying they like it or love it - and even the ones who aren't don't appear to be sneering and mocking.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/02/2024 23:10

It looks as if the people living there just got up and left. Strange vibe.

mjf981 · 03/02/2024 03:26

OMG the dolphins leaping out of the bath have made my day! Want!!

mjf981 · 03/02/2024 03:27

Its got a very 'middle American' vibe to me.

CreateHope · 03/02/2024 03:31

Amazing space - although needs so much work! The photos are terrible - the estate agent needs to do them again!

isthismylifenow · 03/02/2024 04:37

This was great to see.

As an outsider I am always perplexed by how much houses all look the same when a Rightmove post is linked.

Where I live, people don't generally update their homes on the regular, so seeing this just looked like a normal house to me.

I'd rather be looking at this house with its what people think is such dated decor, rather than all the grey drab nothing out of place decor that all look alike.

garlictwist · 03/02/2024 05:41

I absolutely love this and wouldn't change a thing. I love mid/late 20th century aesthetic - very boxy and brown. I hate all the clean white look of today. I think that house is so cosy.

Paw2024 · 03/02/2024 08:09

@SweetBirdsong my bathrooms are

En suite - 3ft 10 x 8ft 4 (at widest)

Main bathroom - 5ft 6 x 5ft 10 (at widest)

MrsWhattery · 03/02/2024 08:27

I’ve seen smaller! A lot of Scottish tenements have tiny bathrooms, even when the flat itself is not small. Bath all along one wall, toilet next to one end and mini washbasin next to toilet. 5ft x 4ft sometimes. There is indeed no room to move!

My current bathroom is a bit bigger but still no room for anything but the 3 main items. I dream a bathroom with a nice wicker chair in it to throw your clothes on!

RichardsGear · 03/02/2024 08:39

The photos give a weird, unsettling vibe. Like pp said, it's as if someone has just upped and left... the random pen and magazine on the kitchen table; the suitcase on the bed (and what are those crumpled up things on the bed next to it?!); the dining table 'dressed' for dinner yet in another room the curtains aren't even open properly.

Paw2024 · 03/02/2024 08:40

Here. It's not massive but it's a pretty standard size bathroom I would say in a new build or terrace. Plenty of room to move around

DottyLottieLou · 03/02/2024 08:45

That's a lovely space. Not very 70s at all.

MrsWhattery · 03/02/2024 08:45

Yes the suitcases on the beds do give it a mysterious vibe - it’s like a house in a detective film that the detective arrives at too late to find the suspect and wanders around spotting clues Grin

Also the garden furniture photo is depressing- but it just makes me want to makeover the garden. It could be fabulous!

JaninaDuszejko · 03/02/2024 08:54

@Paw2024 that plan shows why so many UK bathrooms are small. A 2 bedroomed flat doesn't need 2 tiny bathrooms, it would be better to have one decent sized one. Mind you, I've just checked our smallest bathroom and it's only 5'11" x 6'2" but with no bath it feels a reasonable size.
