No heating with our combi boiler

KatyMac · 10/11/2023 17:47

It started fine a few weeks ago then when we put it on earlier this week no heating

Hot water is fine

I checked the pressure and increased it to the line - is there anything else I can try?

Does it fire up and then shut down? Is the timer set to Central Heating on and the room thermostat calling for heat? What make of boiler and how is it controlled?

KatyMac · 10/11/2023 18:06

It doesnt fire up

I have checked the batteries in the thermostat and that shows a flame when I manually put the heating on but nothing happens at the boiler

I'll go and check the make

I set and changed all the temps when the hour changed

Mine has a panel on the front I can open and it usually has an error code. So far thankfully that error code has always just meant it needed repressurising but your manual may have a list of fault codes if you can see a code on the boiler?

It's a Worcester 28cdi & quite old

This isbthebcontrol downstairs

What about on the boiler itself

KatyMac · 10/11/2023 18:20

Now I turned the radiators up to the highest level, turned the boiler off and on

And nothing

I have the boiler set to on all the time then the thermostat changes it according to time/temp

Do you need to turn the thermostat up? Is it set to 14⁰C and is your house colder than that? It won't heat if your house is warmer than the set temperature

Swimeveryday · 10/11/2023 18:21

Sounds like a valve or thermostat you need a plumber

OliveHenry · 10/11/2023 18:23

I had the same issue last week.

Control gadget showed the flame but the boiler didn't ignite.

Gas engineer discovered that the pipe to the expansion tank was blocked. So he poked it out with a screwdriver and all was well again.

It's somewhere inside the boiler so it's probably going to be a job for the experts.

KatyMac · 10/11/2023 18:26

That looks normal

Iver manually tunerld the thermostat up to 20

Not because I want it 20 but because I thought it might trigger it

aswarmofmidges · 10/11/2023 18:31

Is there any flap on the boiler you ca open up ?

Swimeveryday · 10/11/2023 18:32

Not the digital display thermostat the actual thermostat device in the boiler not sensing what the temperature actually is so not kicking in.

KatyMac · 10/11/2023 18:33

I found a reset button and pressed it (I downloaded the manual)
I now have a flashing red light on the heating side which is better that before!

OP posts:
KatyMac · 10/11/2023 18:34

Flashing slow is ignition lockout

So I'll Google to see what that is

OP posts:
KatyMac · 10/11/2023 18:49

Which should clear with a second reset but it didn't

So I've tried turning it all off and waiting 20 mins before I turn it back on! Might work....otherwise its a plumber on Monday

If you have hot water but no heat going to the radiators, it sounds like the diverter valve could be jammed. This valve pushes the hot water from the taps to the radiators for heat - you can move it manually in the interim to get the radiators heating up until you can get a plumber to replace it.

Timewentfast · 10/11/2023 19:48

Yes I second the poster above. I had this on my boiler. The button that changes the boiler from HW to CH wasn't working. You need a repair man.

Wibble128 · 10/11/2023 20:10

I fthe clock and thermostat are calling for heat and show, on / flame and nothing happens then I agree about the diverter valve being the issue.

KatyMac · 10/11/2023 20:19

It didn't start so I'll phone someone next week

There isn't any covers on the boiler as far as I can see

OP posts:
KatyMac · 10/11/2023 20:21

I'll go Google the diverted valve! Thanks guys

It might have to wait until after my bath tho'

SgtJuneAckland · 10/11/2023 20:33

We had the opposite of this last year, couldn't get the heating off, it was a motorised diverter valve, they go after a while and don't switch on and off ours was stuck on, sounds like yours might be stuck off if you're getting hot water

PumpkinSpiceSeason · 10/11/2023 20:36

My Worcester combi died recently too. It's not the cheapest and we don't want to be on this flat much longer. So the boiler guy gave us a Gloworm. We are two days in and toasty.

Hoping you don't need a new one though!
