Underfloor heating and insulation in our bedroom. NW corner of period detached house - always bloody freezing in there despite new boiler, gas ch, double glazing etc. God knows what it must have been like 100 years ago.

Knock wall down between 2 small sitting rooms to make one large, light room which can still be divided if needed with folding doors.

Demolish ancient and collapsing shed in the garden and replace with smart cabin type thingy

anicecuppateaa · 17/10/2023 12:14

Kitchen extension, slope from the road to the house (bumping a buggy up 15 steps is exhausting), better insulation.

Downstairs loo. Something we could never have because there just isn’t room.
Huge walk in shower, again not enough room and DH won’t get rid of the bath.
Knock through from hall to kitchen, can’t be done as my fridge freezer is in the cupboard on that wall and the central heating pipes come down in there.

  1. Pull down the garage extension and rebuild it as a kitchen / utility extension with direct access onto number 3!
  2. New drive
  3. Landscape the garden and build a beautiful patio
Powaqa · 17/10/2023 13:41

Loft extension
Utility room
Decorated throughout

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/10/2023 13:52
  1. Finish all the projects that DH started and then lost interest in.

  2. Finish all the secondary jobs that DH started as displacement activity to the projects he'd lost interest in.

  3. Lay tarmac on the currently gravelled front courtyard to make it easier to roll the wheelie bin on.

HerculesMulligan · 17/10/2023 13:59

New roof, new floors, new windows. It's a money pit.

honeyandfizz · 17/10/2023 14:06

A deVOL kitchen

New flush casement windows

Two new front doors

spitefulandbadgrammar · 17/10/2023 14:08

Strip all the woodchip and replaster
Big privacy hedge at the front, ideally copper beech
Knock down the horrendous back/kitchen/freezing lootility and have a new kitchen-diner with doors to the garden

Still loads to do after that (fixer upper, the worst house on the best street) but all manageable with some elbow grease and time, but for click-your-fingers instant improvements, those three things would be transformative.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 17/10/2023 14:08

Loft conversion (it's not actually possible with our structure and layout hence the wish😂)

Kitchen utility ripped out and redone

A huge porch/conservatory on the back door for warmth, boots, lounging, etc.
We inherited a conservatory on one side, facing north, well, more of a covered yard really, between the house and the boundary wall, so this is where the freezer, beer fridge, etc are kept. It is a useful storage area, but you couldn't put furniture in it and lounge about…

The downstairs bathroom installed.
It won't have a bath, just a shower, loo and basin. Then we can wash the dogs more easily for a start. I bough the most lovely lilies talavera loo and basin second hand for a fraction of what they cost new, and I can easily match up a blue or green shower tray and wall panels. They are in storage and I'm itching to get them in.

The shed roofs replaced.
We have a run of sheds in the yard, all of which leak. We burn wood to supplement our oil (rural, no gas) and need them for storage, not to mention tools, bikes, etc.

My additional unlimited money wishes would be:
A loft extension, with a secret star gazing space in the gully between the two roofs
A posh new drive, maybe brick or stone.
Replacement double glazed windows for the ones we couldn't afford first time round. We matched up the look of them and just replaced the actually rotten ones, but there are about six more that I wish we could have done as well.

dibly · 17/10/2023 22:54

Reconfigure the double garage and kitchen to make a big front to back kitchen with bifolds

new fireplace which works

new drive and patio

and then, lounge, dining room, hall and landing redecorated, new roof, rewire, pipes replaced, conservatory floor replaced, new window frames in lounge, porch converted into boot room, and the garden fox proofed. 6 weeks in and the list is growing!
