I love it OP.

topnoddy · 07/09/2023 18:26

God no !

Way too much glass , would be a bugger to heat in winter

greenspaces4peace · 07/09/2023 18:27

yes, although one window looks like it needs replacing.
it (and many of the others) would look 1000x better with properly fitted window treatment (custom blinds).
next i would push hard for proper ground maintenance.

Fair points @LindyLou2020 . There may be an argument that all publicity is good publicity, and someone who finds a house this way might end up buying it? I personally enjoy looking at properties online and envisaging whether or not I could live in them. But I agree that some of the opinions expressed can be harsh. I think it's fine to say that something isn't to one's own personal taste, but it's possible to do this without being entirely negative or rude.

@ClematisBlue49 Yes, I did think about seeing it from the "all publicity is good publicity" too.
I don't think I could see it that way if I was the seller, but others may do, and I respect that.
And I agree - some of the opinions expressed are unnecessarily unpleasant.

Kay286 · 07/09/2023 18:45

I couldn’t get over the exterior it’s grim .. is it ex La?

The weirdness on MN knows no bounds. Any house on the market will be on the EA website, RM, PL, Zoopla etc. A M thread is niche by comparison. if a special feature results in an sale surely the owner would be delighted.

Not everyone is so oversensitive.

"The weirdness on MN knows no bounds"..........
May I ask to whom you are referring?
Of course any house on the market will be on the platforms that you mention - I did acknowledge that in my first post.
But none of them have a facility whereby anyone can post their opinions about the property, good or bad, for anyone to see.
That is the crucial difference.
MN may be niche, but it is very well used.
So, if you are referring to me regarding "weirdness", it's the kind of judgemental, arrogant comment that I was more or less expecting from someone, sooner or later.
If a seller is delighted to have their house posted on MN, that's great. If it results in a sale, that's great too.
It's just not for me, and that does not make me "so oversensitive", just someone whose opinion doesn't fall in line with yours.

LibertyLily · 07/09/2023 19:13

I wouldn't because I'm not a fan of the exterior or interior.

We've always owned period houses and I love quirky, but although I've nothing against mid century properties per se, I don't like the weird room shapes or the huge expanse of windows. The kitchen and bedrooms are very small too and whilst the reception room is fairly spacious, I couldn't get over the lack of space elsewhere. As for that oven location!

LindaDawn · 07/09/2023 19:29

Looks like the house has been angled to get lots of light. I quite like it. Think the inside of a house is the important thing. I would want it to be traditionally built though.

Bluevelvetsofa · 07/09/2023 20:57

It’s cheap for Oatlands Village. The council tax is band E, so that’ll be massive.

Imagine this: being confident and secure, thus not caring what anyone says about your house.

MarshyMcMarshFace · 07/09/2023 21:57

Oh I would buy that house like a shot.

In fact I am totting up how fast I can sell my house…

Love love love mid century / 60s architecture. Span housing is famous!
I would love to have a bedroom with dual aspect windows.

Boozyno · 07/09/2023 21:58

I would - but then I like those houses. But if you don’t, then you’ll never be happy there!

Good price for the area too.

DepartureLounge · 07/09/2023 22:00

I love period property but I'd bite your hand off for a Span home. It will hold its value too, as long as you present it well. If you look at The Modern Home they sell this kind of thing all the time for £££.

I don't know anything about the area or the local market, but assuming the price is right I'd go for it without hesitation.

Laboriprofumi · 07/09/2023 22:03

No

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/09/2023 22:04

I like it all except for the back garden but no doubt that could be vastly improved. Oh and the black wall in the bathroom.

Brightredtulips · 07/09/2023 22:06

I totally love it.

MuchTooTired · 07/09/2023 22:09

It’s weird looking, but I’m really loving it! That and the rules that come with it, I can’t understand why I’m not recoiling in horror, but I’m not, I’m reading through the website rules thinking it’s so much easier having everything clearly specified for me. I think it’s lovely.

BotterMon · 07/09/2023 22:10

Friend had one as her first house in Weybridge. Really nice inside and well built. She's Swedish so it really appealed to her. I like quirky as so many British estates are boring as fuck with doppelganger houses.

The shared spaces are lovely and very safe for kids and it's a great place to live. Cheap for the area too! Amazing that one more bedroom adds another £300K to the price!

LindyLou2020 · 07/09/2023 22:11

Mirabai · 07/09/2023 21:08

Imagine this: being confident and secure, thus not caring what anyone says about your house.

Imagine this....
I'm "confident and secure" enough to say that I have the right to not want a house I may be selling to be pulverised, criticised, and ridiculed on MN.
But not everyone is "confident and secure enough".
Think about them......if you can.

TedMullins · 07/09/2023 22:12

LindyLou2020 · 07/09/2023 17:52

I don't want to comment on the house as such........
And I suspect I'm going to be out on a limb here, and I'm steeling myself for criticism, ridicule, "well, don't read the thread then", etc.
I know anyone can view any house for sale in an estate agent's window, website, in print, and so on.
But I have always felt very uncomfortable when Mumsnetters post a link which gives all the details of a particular house for sale, usually because they want opinions as to whether or not they should buy it.
If I was the owner of this house, I would be mortified, and probably very angry, to see a home which is unmistakebly mine, featured on a prominent social media platform such as MN, being picked apart and criticised in such a public manner.
I quote - "ugly", "worse than grim".........
It's totally different from looking at a house via an estate agent, and not what the seller signed up for.
There, I've said it, and I stand by it.
Is it just me who finds it incredibly insulting and distasteful?

This is really over sensitive. Is it your house? If you’re selling a property then you have to accept pictures of it are viewable by the general public and some people will hate your taste. I painted stripes in my hallway and a close friend called it a demented circus, I’m sure the public would be meaner! But I like it which is what matters so why would I care if other people don’t?

And I actually love this house, but I really like the midcentury look and some brutalist tendencies.

dollybird · 07/09/2023 22:17

Has the link been removed? I can't see it.

aloneagaingreat · 07/09/2023 22:21

I don't know the area, but if I was looking for a 3 bed house and that was what was available in my price range, I would definitely book a viewing and probably be quite excited about it.

I love mid century stuff and 60s architecture.

I love the quirkiness and how it's not bland like so many new housing estates.

I do find the oven placement odd. Surely you shouldn't have a heat source next to UPVC windows? But I'm sure that could be changed; it hardly seems like a dealbreaker.

I do echo a pp point though about how the dress the windows so they look good from the outside. All the drawn curtains in the daytime in the photos don't look great.

But overall, yes, I really like it.

I couldn't see a link either but managed to find it on Rightmove, here you go

Dotcheck · 07/09/2023 22:26

I LOVE that house. Much more interesting than all the square boxes littered across the country
