It's wouldn't work for me. I don't like flat roofs and wonky rooms. They have done it up lovely inside though.

NotYourHolidayDick · 07/09/2023 17:20

What's right with it more like! Squished right up against cheap PV blown double glazing. Imagine the heat of cooking against it in the summer, the condensation in the winter, no room for the saucepan handles. I. Just. Couldn't.

BackToOklahoma · 07/09/2023 17:23

The outside is not to my taste so no. Kitchen and bathroom would put me off too.

GeraltsBathtub · 07/09/2023 17:23

@NotYourHolidayDick tbf mine is against the wall rather than a window but surely the condensation is dealt with by the extractor? The handles aren’t a problem either, just have them towards you

Twiglets1 · 07/09/2023 17:24

It’s so pretty inside but so ugly outside. I wouldn’t even view it personally

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/09/2023 17:24

Not a fan of the overall look of the building, and with every room having floor-to-ceiling windows, I wonder if it would feel a bit goldfish-bowl. I agree it would be full of light, but, how do you dress those windows to best effect? Because the curtains are part of what makes it not so nice from the outside. Vertical blinds maybe? I'd also be worried about heat and sound insulation.

But to be completely shallow - loving that rug! I've been looking for something just like that for the best part of three years, does anyone recognise it or know where it might have been bought from? (Knowing my luck it will be bespoke or a personal import. Sigh.)

Would you but this house?
Would you but this house?
Judashascomeintosomemoney · 07/09/2023 17:29

I love it! Just looked at the history of Templemere, very interesting. Obviously I’d want to know it was sound and not of non standard construction. I’d probably want to remodel the kitchen and bathroom too, but I love the look, very Barbican, which I also love.
Inly thing that would put me off would be days like today. Sitting in my own house, which is very old and with thick walls, and a south facing garden is almost unbearable. I don’t move from room to room, I move from fan to fan, not sure I could actually live with that much glass in reality.

StTropezTan · 07/09/2023 17:35

Haha! I was brought up in this area and years and years ago went out for a short time with a guy whose parents lived in Templemere (not in either of these particular houses) but these photos take me back - and the interiors don’t look that much different either, even the furniture. The wooden flooring, open plan living when it was fashionable first time around, and small kitchens!

Songbird74 · 07/09/2023 17:36

I don’t like anything about it - inside or out. But it’s all about personal preference - would you love it enough to wait for a buyer to buy it from you when you come to sell?

CrabbiesGingerBeer · 07/09/2023 17:37

Squiblet · 07/09/2023 17:14

I like it but would want to see the utility bills before committing. It might cost a fortune to heat with all that glass.

My first thought too - how much heat is lost through those massive windows!

sezzer87 · 07/09/2023 17:37

I can't see the link?

Am I the only one who can't see the link? Is it in Weymede?

I can't see it either

Scottishgirl85 · 07/09/2023 17:40

Weird angles and tiny rooms - nope!

sezzer87 · 07/09/2023 17:40

No I wouldn't not at that price! Is it a 60's build?
It looks spacious but I prefer chunky nice square type homes with centrally places doors for that sort of money.

MissingMoominMamma · 07/09/2023 17:41

I used to rent a similar house when I was younger. I loved it; it was really light and airy.

Mirabai · 07/09/2023 17:46

Yes I totally would and I’m super fussy. There are a lot of those in London but they don’t cost £535k! Bargain. Slightly insane layout but livable with nice leafy views and a nice garden.

RovenderKitt · 07/09/2023 17:49

I like it! I live in a late 60s house and love the light with such huge windows. If South facing, will be cheap to heat, I often have the windows open in winter on a sunny day. But unbearable in the heat!

LindyLou2020 · 07/09/2023 17:52

I don't want to comment on the house as such........
And I suspect I'm going to be out on a limb here, and I'm steeling myself for criticism, ridicule, "well, don't read the thread then", etc.
I know anyone can view any house for sale in an estate agent's window, website, in print, and so on.
But I have always felt very uncomfortable when Mumsnetters post a link which gives all the details of a particular house for sale, usually because they want opinions as to whether or not they should buy it.
If I was the owner of this house, I would be mortified, and probably very angry, to see a home which is unmistakebly mine, featured on a prominent social media platform such as MN, being picked apart and criticised in such a public manner.
I quote - "ugly", "worse than grim".........
It's totally different from looking at a house via an estate agent, and not what the seller signed up for.
There, I've said it, and I stand by it.
Is it just me who finds it incredibly insulting and distasteful?

Maisie2409 · 07/09/2023 17:53

Well, I’m biased as I live in an Eric Lyon’s property in another part of London and LOVE it! It’s all down to personal preference, but the property you shared has bags of potential for a great price - just imagine it with more scandi style and/or mid century modern interior design. Our property is flooded with light, has floor to ceiling greenery views and so much more square footage than we could have ever got with a Victorian / Edwardian property. Look on ‘The Modern House’ for stunning examples of how people have made this era of architecture very cool!

Fair points @LindyLou2020 . There may be an argument that all publicity is good publicity, and someone who finds a house this way might end up buying it? I personally enjoy looking at properties online and envisaging whether or not I could live in them. But I agree that some of the opinions expressed can be harsh. I think it's fine to say that something isn't to one's own personal taste, but it's possible to do this without being entirely negative or rude.

madeleine85 · 07/09/2023 17:59

I think the older photos of it look like a school building. Not my personal taste. I'm also thinking of the window cleaners that you'll be constantly paying... It also has a flat roof from what i'm seeing, and as someone who has a flat roof, I can tell you that it is really bad for water damage/rain collecting and finding a way in. Big no here.

Echio · 07/09/2023 18:01

So many 60s features, this house is really cool!!

Several immediate changes for me - that oven position, there's no room to move when standing over it, or to stick the pan handles out on the window side so you'll never be able to cook on all rings. Moving it looks like it might be a whole re-jig situation? And a couple of the windows are blown - I can well imagine these being a bit expensive as non-standard sizes.

All that glass means it'll be sweltering in summer (you'll block them all off and live in darkness) and freezing in winter - I haven't looked at EPC but you've got to treat them with a pinch of salt usually.

But ... these criticisms aside, I absolutely love the look of the house, inside and out - I'd be thinking about it!! I think on a house like this is all about the look - you've got to love it to live with it :)

The weirdness on MN knows no bounds. Any house on the market will be on the EA website, RM, PL, Zoopla etc. A M thread is niche by comparison. if a special feature results in an sale surely the owner would be delighted.

Not everyone is so oversensitive.

exexpat · 07/09/2023 18:12

Span houses are very popular with fans of midcentury modern style, and even smaller ones than that go for a lot more in certain parts of London. I think the style is fine if you furnished it a bit more in keeping with the era, but what would put me off would be the energy bills - have you looked at the EPC graph?

It looks like all the windows would need to be replaced and lots of insulation put in where possible (may be difficult given the construction methods) if you don't want all your money to go on heat disappearing through the lovely huge windows and thin walls.
