Hi, I am in dilemma as to which wall paint colour to go in my living room. It’s north east facing with a big skylight as such the room has got good light…the decorators start painting within 2 days and I am yet to decide on paint colour. I looked a nutmeg white, timeless, almond white and just walnut but so far none of them seem to be looking good. I thought Almknd white will look good but it’s looking too creamy/yellowish….the only furniture which I have at the moment which I am going to reuse is a beige sofa. Please if you all can suggest a good wall paint colour which is not too over bearing and will make the room look bright and happy it’s going to be tremendously helpful for me..I am attaching a picture of my room for reference

just to add I will prefer DULUX shades as that seems to be a tad bit economical

I'll be having Dulux New Meringue throughout my property. Living room is north-facing with light tunnels towards the south end. It's a neutral off-white / cream, not too grey or too warm. If you want something a bit cooler, Milky Pail is nice. Many people seem to like Timeless which is a very light off white. I found it a bit too white in artificial light, while New Meringue has a bit more depth.

ClematisBlue49 · 07/08/2023 19:16

...I've also recommended Chalky Downs 6 on another thread, which is a slightly warmer option.

loyganroyal · 07/08/2023 19:29

Almond white Dulux

Caitlin991 · 07/08/2023 19:38

We have dulux chalky down 6 & find it lovely, neutral but not too white or too yellow, and not at all over bearing

VinEtFromage · 07/08/2023 19:43

@NotaRobot1 problem is all of them will look lovely in different houses.

can you go & get a bunch of sample paints in the morning and paint up some sheets of paper to see them in your room?

have you tried talking to the decorators?

at least you know you want Dulux, that's a start 👍🏻

Renovator1 · 07/08/2023 19:43

I like Brilliant pure white!
do you have Dulux decorator centre nearby? They're fab to visit.

BLT24 · 07/08/2023 19:45

Dulux pure white

or

Little Green Slaked Lime or Slaked Lime mid

or

Farrow + Ball Ammonite

Findyourneutralspace · 07/08/2023 19:46

I like Dulux Ivory Lace

Anjelika · 07/08/2023 19:50

Dulux Natural Calico. Have it in kitchen diner. I have Ivory Lace too but am going to paint over it in Natural Calico as I prefer it. A bit more substance to it than Timeless.

Rachaelrachael · 07/08/2023 19:52

Dulux summer linen is a nice creamy white without looking at all yellow. I also love f&b strong white which has more of a grey tinge but looks great in all types of daylight

RunnerDown · 07/08/2023 19:54

Egyptian cotton is a lovely neutral colour.

SM4713 · 07/08/2023 19:55

I'm having a similar dilemma for watching with interest.

JimnJoyce · 07/08/2023 20:03

also having this dilemma

GoingGoingUp · 07/08/2023 20:54

Nutmeg white has a very very slight pink twinge to it.

Egyptian Cotton is a great colour for a large open space.

neverwakeasleepingbaby · 07/08/2023 20:56

Try skimming stone F&B. Or slipper satin. As others have said, it really depends on the light in your room. Shaded white looks lovely in my spare room (north facing) but awful in my lounge (when I tried a sample of it).
Even if your room has a lot of light, northern light is very blue and cold. So you need something yellow-y or red to counteract that. A white with those colours should work best. But you may also want to consider what works with your sofa in addition to that!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 07/08/2023 21:01

Another one for Egyptian Cotton, it’s a warm beige white but no yellow.

User63847484848 · 07/08/2023 21:24

not sure what the dulux equivalent is but I love Fareow & Ball Wimborne white - it’s the actual colour of double cream to me so fresh and warm without being yellowy and no hint of grey which is not for me

CancelledCheque · 07/08/2023 21:35

We just painted our sitting room Cornflower White which is a very subtle white with a hint of blue. It’s fresh and calm and looks lovely with our warm tan leather couches and mango wood furniture. We also painted the ceiling the same colour and it makes our low ceilings appear a bit higher as there’s no contrasting pure white against Egyptian Cotton walls as we had before.

Lookingatthesunset · 07/08/2023 22:24

I love your tiles! I'm having similar fitted in my en suite with a little bit more veining. I have a marble top console table in the hall and have navy/grey/silver curtains at the front door, so I want a grey-white to tone in.

My bathroom contractor suggested Valspar paint from B&Q which he reckons is very good and they mix it for you. I am going to try Aged Parchment - have a sample. I think it would work with the tiles. I hope it's going to work on my hall, stairs and landing!

Sussurations · 07/08/2023 22:30

Like a pp, I like F&B Wimborne White - it just looks like white, but softer and warmer. I painted my whole flat in it and it worked in all lights and is my favourite white.

Also suggested by a pp, F&B Strong White is an incredibly versatile shade that complements many other colours both cool and warm, but it can look a bit cold/ grey/ drab in direct north light.

F&B James White is another one I like - it has a touch of green that I think looks very modern and fresh but it’s also very easy to live with. Might be worth a try.

I know Dulux is great quality paint and more economical, but ime most of the F&B colours just can’t be beaten for their interaction with the light.

saraclara · 07/08/2023 22:32

I used Jasmine White.

userxx · 07/08/2023 22:35

saraclara · 07/08/2023 22:32

I used Jasmine White.

Looked really yellow on my walls.

Findyourneutralspace · 08/08/2023 02:05

I have Wimborne White (but colour matched, not the real F&B) in my bathroom and agree, it’s lovely and fresh.
