I want to find this magical place too! From what I've seen I think you may struggle with that budget if you want the beach on your doorstep

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/07/2023 11:09

I agree!

Have a look at West Sussex. I’m not sure you’ll find a four bed for your budget, but Chichester has a market, good schools, plenty of cafes and restaurants. Surrounding read are on or near the coast and there are leisure centres.

I don’t think there’s any area that won’t have a degree of drug related incidents.

mrsdoubtfire9 · 21/07/2023 11:09

In Devon Sidmouth might be worth a look.

It's worth considering quite a number of seaside towns have drug issues so I'd do your research!

KievLoverTwo · 21/07/2023 11:09

This sounds like a £1.2-2 million house on a 500k budget.

You might get a four bed on the Lancashire coast for that, but certainly not with a swimming pool and the beaches are mostly ugly.

You need to adjust your expectations and/or area requirements.

bagforlifeamnesty · 21/07/2023 11:20

I think OP means a swimming pool in the town, not in the house!

beth55676554 · 21/07/2023 11:20

With that budget, it seems a bit unrealistic to achieve that, especially in those areas. You might be able to find somewhere for that budget but it'll likely be in Blackpool or somewhere similar.

None of the Blackpool sea front houses have decent gardens. At least not on Ops budget.

OK swimming pool not in garden ! Barry Island, penarth , gower , mumbles ? This looks reasonable?

Look at Bridport, Charmouth, Weymouth in Dorset.

brokenstone · 21/07/2023 19:15

Swanage

WalterHWhite · 21/07/2023 19:17

Barry Island is lovely. Jackson’s Bay on your doorstep!

LilyAndTheKing · 21/07/2023 19:19

South Wales, you couldn't do better than Swansea/ Mumbles or the Gower.

2reefsin30knots · 21/07/2023 19:21

Weymouth has a drugs problem and a 4 bed house where you could walk to the sandy bit of beach would cost more than 500k.

That said, I would definitely consider Portland. It's gentrifying quite rapidly. There's a pool on the island and so much watersport available at the National Academy. Doesn't tick all the boxes, but it is worth a look.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 21/07/2023 19:27

Wherever you choose, visit in the winter before you commit.

2reefsin30knots · 21/07/2023 19:28

Easy walk to the harbour from here, which is safe for a swim as long as you avoid the kite surfers. Ideal for paddle boarding etc and there are dolphins! We see them all the time as they come to play with the boats.

Penarth is a lovely town with great Primary schools. Definitely have a look on rightmove.

Louisipeesy · 21/07/2023 22:16

Try looking at the north east coast - sandy beaches galore from the Tyne to the Scottish border. Much better value for money and lovely.

megletthesecond · 21/07/2023 22:38

Sidmouth doesn't have a sandy beach though. And they have drug dealers, although they stick out like a sore thumb 😂.

ShanghaiDiva · 21/07/2023 22:50

Exmouth has an enormous sandy beach, swimming pool and leisure centre, some nice cafes, train station, not sure about primaries but Colyton grammar is excellent. On the negatives: drugs..

Of you don’t want a drug problem area Barry is a no go.

I stand corrected!! Swanage is actually remarkably cheap.
would highly recommend swanage Op

puffinsarecool · 21/07/2023 23:08

Alot of seaside towns have drug problems
google ‘county lines’
they are often deprived areas with limited opportunities for children and young people
Drugs are everywhere

grunttheterrible · 21/07/2023 23:09

Another vote for Mumbles
