That embedded video made me grit my teeth because it's so wanky.

Are those the Norfolk Broads Bowie sang about?

MrsElsa · 19/07/2023 08:41

Still can't imagine who would buy this type of property and what they would do there. Especially in Norfolk!

It looks really lonely somehow

MrsElsa · 19/07/2023 08:41

Well found though!

I’m in the draw for the Yorkshire house, but will be away when the draw happens. I will be able to respond to an email, but according to this article they are half way to your house by the time you get it (and it doesn’t sound as though there is a privacy option - they come with a camera crew). There is a link in the article to the rules, and it seems that you are a ‘potential winner’ until the end of their validation process, which seems stacked in favour of their being able to pick and choose who they want to win.

Can it be legal to deny someone a prize because they go on holiday in August? I know it’s a very long shot that I’ll be the winner, but I love this house and it’s not far from where my son lives, so it would be my dream prize.

Companies that offer lottery-like wins – houses, cars and cash prizes – have taken off recently. Is their success connected to the cost-of-living crisis?

I had to turn it off before Paddleboard Man started talking. The gurgling, rippling water noises were cranked up so loudly it made me need to wee.

Jongleterre · 25/07/2023 14:14

@KievLoverTwo that video was dire. His cheap, badly fitting suit, crumpled shirt and ghastly shoes was a terrible distraction along with him blah blah blah .

Cheese sandwich spat all over screen. Thanks for that!

Always nice to find someone who's a bigger snob than me out in the wild! :)

@ShyMaryEllen

I worked for a PR company that dealt with prize winners (pre Omaze) back in the day. You need to bear in mind that a lot of what you see is ‘staged’.

I am sure they contact the winners before coming to visit. Probably half the winners are away in August and they’d use a video call or something.

I notice they don’t release the winners details immediately to allow time for background checks and to contact them first no doubt.

I think publicity is part of the deal but I note that spouses appear to be able to withhold public information. If you were under witness protection or something maybe you could be anonymous.

Didiplanthis · 25/07/2023 14:38

There is an awful lot of pink !!

TreesWelliesKnees · 25/07/2023 14:40

I wouldn't turn it down. Its a beautiful place. Though it will be under the sea within twenty years or so I think, so probably not a great investment for future generations.

Notcivilnotservant · 25/07/2023 14:42

Yes, I would be terrified about the sea coming in during the night. I spent a lot of time in Holland as a child and had regular nightmares. My husband was brought up by the sea and always feared tsunamis!

That’s a relief 😀. I can go back to dreaming about winning!

I don’t know why they would want to do someone out of their winnings for the sake of a week or so, but IIRC there is something in the T&C about having to be able to travel within a certain window to accept the keys. It would be very bad publicity if a thwarted winner went to the media with a tale of woe.

I don't think that was a suit. <misses the point> nice house though.

The Omaze house always seem to be dodgy in some way, flood plains, on the edge of eroding cliffs etc. Can’t sell them so they’ve got to give them away.

lljkk · 25/07/2023 15:26

I don't care what Omaze is
More about that house

So blissful they are now selling it...
Or rather have been trying to sell it for > 1 year
I find it hideous to look at & totally out of touch with the landscape (!!)
Never mind the local arch style (I have a thing about different arch styles of coastal Norfolk)

I couldn't afford the tax or heating bill even if it was gifted to me, sadly

Not sure about inside, nice enough but a little pokey? Beautiful location of course

Family finds 'Bliss' with beautiful coastal new build in Blakeney

With panoramic views over the unspoiled North Norfolk coastline, this stunning new-build home in Blakeney is pure 'Bliss'

theemmadilemma · 25/07/2023 15:35

What's wrong with it?

Every single Omaze house I've seen so far has actually been pretty unsaleable due to issues. Be it flooding, land erosion etc. So not quite the 'prize' it seems.

I bet there's something up with this one too.

Note the bit about the salt air and paint etc.

I bet it's all coming up for an expensive renewal.

It's a flatpack house they were trying to sell for £6 million.

Good luck selling that on.

Chewbecca · 25/07/2023 15:44

It normally includes a lump sum (£100k?) towards bills as well to ensure the winner can afford to live there / use it.

SD25 · 25/07/2023 15:53

£5 million for that is an absolute joke.

ShyMaryEllen · 25/07/2023 15:55

It’s nowhere near as good as the Yorkshire one that I hope to win. Unless that has an abattoir in the back yard or something.

I can almost guarantee you there's an issue somewhere with it.

That's why they are available to raffle off like this.

Yeah, WTF is he countering on about? "Set your soul ablaze"? The reception rooms are "embryonic"? "A path of desire leads you to the courtyard"?!? What a wally.
