Blakeney is great, but it has flooded in the past. Not sure of the actual location area wise, it’s Broads and sea, so water everywhere.
Anyway, I do Omaze and won Amazon vouchers last month. Woohoo! 😂

AndSoFinally · 27/07/2023 11:21

But it wouldn't matter that houses in that price bracket take ages to sell, because you wouldn't need to get that amount for it? If it was valued at £5m then I'd be over the moon to sell it for 2.5!

CellophaneFlower · 13/08/2023 19:43

I'm sure I counted 12 bathrooms and a further loo when I looked at the Norfolk one recently. That alone gives me the fear 😱

The house next door is under offer, so do wonder if there’s other development planned nearby: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/136194758#/?channel=RES_BUY

^^ this one WILL be the development for sure. So you will be living next to a building site if you win the Omaze. That said, Blakeney is really lovely.

Sod that. I have the hump enough having to clean three.

dressedforcomfort · 13/08/2023 20:47

I do love that part of Norfolk...it's so beautiful. Far far bigger than I would ever ever need though... the maintenance would be a nightmare.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 13/08/2023 21:15

Also, this description from when it was on the open market mentions the land leading into the marshes: https://mapio.co.uk/detail/19635228/

That’s not mentioned as part of the Omaze prize as far as I can tell? Meaning the owners may have kept that land or sold it on separately? Any building on that would spoil those uninterrupted views.

House For Sale, Morston Road, Blakeney, Holt, Norfolk NR25

Youhavegottotakeachance · 15/08/2023 20:38

Yes , that’s a little suspicious.

CellophaneFlower · 15/08/2023 20:55

Next months house is up! It's in Devon and a bit more normal with 3 bathrooms and none of the fun bits 😂 Much prettier and less prison looking though!

CellophaneFlower · 15/08/2023 20:56

Haven't checked if it's about to plunge into the sea yet though 🤔

Barnabyted · 16/08/2023 17:59

The new Devon House is called Bottor Cottage and is just outside the village of Hennock, near Bovey Tracey if anyone is interested. It has a long drive leading up to it and it looks pretty secluded.

lookingforhomemum · 16/08/2023 18:04

Thanks for posting these, I found it interesting. I really wish Omaze would offer more realistic houses as prizes, like normal 3-bed homes, and quite a few of them. No one really needs these Grand Design homes, and for £5m they could easily offer a few houses as the prize, but in all honesty, I'd also rather they didn't start taking homes off the market otherwise it's just another company (although a charitable one) takes the few homes available to any of us. It just feels sort of wrong in a way. I don't know, maybe because I'm feeling overwhelmed with house hunting.

Hi there, I had no idea you could win things like Amazon vouchers, well done! May I ask how much you got? I've never entered as I didn't know they do smaller prizes too. Thank you

My first thought was that it'll be underwater in 50 years

That embedded video made me grit my teeth because it's so wanky.

Are those the Norfolk Broads Bowie sang about?

No, this is the North Norfolk coast, the Broads are in a different bit of Norfolk SE of there.

MarshyMcMarshFace · 16/08/2023 20:06

I know a lot about this house and why it is on the market. Nothing wrong with the house and it wasn’t ‘flat pack’.

The design certainly divided opinion locally. Actually I think it sits quite sympathetically along the hill, and blends in. It doesn’t stick out from the road, very set back.

Better than the faux old fake flint-built developer built houses going up in the area, IMO.

Can’t watch the video til I get home, that will be a treat! The whole ‘Bliss Blakeney’ thing was always wanky.

No it won’t, it’s set high enough up the hill overlooking the marshes.

JollyJolene · 16/08/2023 20:09

That video!
I don’t know if it was him wittering on but the place felt claustrophobic and chaotic to me. Not at all relaxing.

It’s on the coast road between Blakeney and Morston. Up on the escarpment, much higher than the biggest surge tide floods that hit Blakeney some years ago.

MarshyMcMarshFace · 16/08/2023 20:18

It’s on the edge of a beautiful village which has 2 pubs, a couple of great cafes / deli, good restaurants, shop, a few arty shops. Also a good local community, a centre with a lovely programme of tribute bands, bowls club.

A busy sailing club, great for anyone into sailing, paddle boarding (in wetsuit 😂).

Other direction, Michelin starred restaurant, boat jetties, ferries to see the seals at Blakeney Point.

Some of the best birdwatching in the country. Not far from fabulous beaches.

CommonVetch · 16/08/2023 20:32

This has been an interesting thread to read - I got cold chills at the Yorkshire house running costs! Thank god we didn't win it. 😄 The Norfolk House would probably cost more to run - I'd probably just sell it for half of what they claim it's worth and buy something normal and manageable to run. Fun to dream about.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 16/08/2023 20:40

@lookingforhomemum I won a £30 Amazon voucher. I’d only been doing it for 4 months. I hadn’t realised this was a thing either. I spoke to a work colleague and she’d won a £10 Amazon voucher. The vouchers you can pick from Pizza Express and Costa I think? (Don’t quote me). The Amazon one was more appealing tbh.
The have cars and cash too.

There is no mains gas where the Norfolk house is. Oil or Electricity.

DiscoHippo · 16/08/2023 21:04

I really like it. The history of the house has real <gags> authenticity in its design and build, and I actually preferred it in the original, too, rather than the somewhat muted Omaze makeover. You could also make a bomb from renting out The Cabin.
