To keep these built in wardrobes or not?

Hello,

We recently purchased a very dated house and are in process of decorating the whole house and need to be sensible about how we spend our money. My husband wants to keep these ugly wardrobes as there is nothing wrong with them apart from I think they are ugly! and just paint them and replace the door knobs on them but I still think they will look ugly when painted . What would you do? Get rid or try and revamp them ? We would probably paint them in same colour as the walls so that they blend in. Colour will be in green.

@Loveflatwhite can't believe how different they look, SO much better! I am buying a house that I intended to rip out the horrible black built in wardrobes but now I am going to stop and do what you've done. Did you sand down the doors or anything first? I've never painted before.

You could wall paper the door’s especially if you make them flat with thin ply wood. Some timber merchants will cut the plywood if you give the measurements for a small charge

Paint them but change the doors round so 1 mirror at each end and 3 plain doors in middle

Farrow and Ball have a lovely soft colour called Wimborne White. I always have it mixed at Crown Trade, B&Q can do it as well, it’s cheaper and F&B paint isn’t very nice to paint with.

put some fancy handles on them, wardrobes are so expensive, the materials to build your own aren’t cheap either. You can always change them at a later date, I think they’re fine and will look so much better painted
