If you live near the beach, where do you live?

DH and I have spoken endlessly about relocating to somewhere near the beach. Work has always tied us to our current location but recent changes mean we can now take the plunge.

Ideally we need to be within an hour or so of Manchester for caring responsibilities. Where do you wise MN'ers recommend?

If you've relocated, do you regret it?

Check out the Fylde coast and Knott End on Sea on Right Move. Really reasonable house prices lots of bungalows!

We are fortunate to own a static very near the coast but about 2 1/2 hours from Manchester so not the right location for you.

Sounds like Wirral or Sefton coast would be your best bets - both great, good value, excellent schools and close to Liverpool for culture/work etc.

My friends live in New Brighton and if I was relocating it's where I'd choose.

We relocated to a beach town. We saw a house come up on the seafront, and despite not being on the market ourselves we offered on it, and asked the vendors if they would give us time to sell, and they did. Thankfully we got a buyer for ours quite quickly, and so it all went ahead. We can walk to 2 beaches in minutes. We have a lovely sea view from our house and garden. We have never regretted it and we won't sell this house until we are too old to manage the stairs - and even then I think one of the kids will take it off us rather than let it go. We are 3 hours north of Manchester though, so no good for you.

The Wirral would be good for you

I live quite close to here and whilst house prices are cheap, the housing froning onto the sea and the bit between the sea and houses is exceptionally dull and quite unattractive. Had to give up trying to go for a long exercise walk there recently because I was so bored.

Whereabouts have you enjoyed visiting? That might help steer your choice...

RetirementImReadyForYou · 19/06/2023 14:13

Excellent suggestions, thank you, I'll have a look.

We've been to Lytham St Anne's a lot recently and that has really pushed the thought process of moving as I could relocate easily for work.

I'm another fylde coaster here. I love loving by the sea, can you tell by my username...?? I can see Morecombe Bay from my bed.

I'm north fylde but depending on budget was going to suggest Lytham or Ansdell. I love the town I live in and have zero problems, but it's viewed by some as being a bit ropey. I'm happy for them to keep that opinion and stay away 🤣, the Sea front and the houses along it are lovely here. Really depends what you want and budget.

Yikesno · 19/06/2023 14:24

Formby has a lovely beach and should work for you I'm terms of distance from Manchester.

mondaytosunday · 19/06/2023 14:34

I used to live on the Isle of Wight. Not an hour to Manchester though!

Lwrenagain · 19/06/2023 15:33

The wirral sounds ideal.

I've lived in New Brighton and its not overly expensive to buy and some great bargain homes.

I'm buying/selling on the Wirral atm so if you have any ideas of type of houses you need etc let me know and I'll send you links if anything decent comes up, I'm always looking on rightmove because I'm a nosey weirdo 🙈

Can i ask which town?

justasking111 · 19/06/2023 23:13

North Wales, we're spoilt for choice, Llandudno, Conwy. I like West Kirby good sailing club so you could take that up 😁

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 19/06/2023 23:22

I relocated to a coastal town from the city and regretted it.

I felt isolated, couldn't find 'my tribe', found it insular, missed culture and the multicultural buzz of the city and the lack of connectivity. I lasted three years and it would have been even less if lockdown hadn't interrupted play. A year later I still wake up every morning and my first thought its I'M BACK!!!!!

I do worry that we will go from somewhere very busy and with lots on our doorstep, to a seaside town and then hate it. You don't know if you don't try though, right?

I also worry about schools. I currently rely on family once a week for school picks ups whilst I'm at work and I'm conscious that if we move, we lose that support.

Live in Puglia now 🤣 but came here from Waterloo, Liverpool. Beach was 10 minutes walk.

I like living on the edge of places. Where land ends and water starts.

Do you miss the Mexican on South Road? I would 🙈😂

augustusglupe · 26/06/2023 12:34

I used to live right next to the beach in North Wales.
Great for a holiday, but I don't miss the high winds and sand everywhere.

Mercurial123 · 26/06/2023 12:44

I'm overseas at the moment but my home in the UK is Brighton. I love it.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/06/2023 13:00

Sefton coast is stunning.
