Want to join me on a journey across 7 counties?

Me, DH, 2 DS 8 & 9 plus MIL have decided we want to move from Devon to Yorkshire

we are selling our home in Devon here

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/135290159

Thought sharing our journey through the logistics of finding a house in Yorkshire, negotiating mortgages and logistics and selling a less than run of the mill house may be interesting.

I work in Leeds quite a lot so cutting down in travel is a massive bonus and living somewhere more urban is a draw.

We are looking for a 4 bed, in a small market town just outside of Leeds.
multi generational living is a bonus.

An extra lounge for MIL is needed.

We have seen a few properties we like but we are waiting until we have an offer

house went on the market 4 days ago and we have 10 viewings already.

Want to join me on this adventure?

Check out this 3 bedroom semi-detached house for sale on Rightmove

That’s a big move but sure you’ll love Yorkshire. Where are you looking? I guess you have already found out that it can be quite expensive in the nice areas! Happy to share experience of the North Leeds area if that’s where you are looking

WingBingo · 30/05/2023 21:54

We are open to different areas of Yorkshire.

quite liking Outwell, Lofthouse & Methley

also like the Roundhays area.

we have a budget of up to £450k but that’s our limit.

Ahh - not my area at all! If money were no object I would move somewhere like Menston if I needed a train station or Otley if I didn’t need a train station. Very good schools

WingBingo · 30/05/2023 22:03

We are open to ideas. Train to Leeds less than 45 mins is a factor.

What an adventure OP! Good luck & I'm looking forward to following your journey!

Your current house is cool! Can I please ask where the gold light fitting is from in the bedroom with white bedding & brick wall?

WingBingo · 30/05/2023 22:56

@libertyfabric John Lewis but a few years ago.

We’ve had 13 viewings booked in this week.

loving the tidy house! DH is learning that if you tidy up after yourself you don’t need to tidy up.

we got an asking price offer today but we have 4 more viewings on Saturday so we will wait a bit to see what happens!

Trip to Yorkshire booked in for next week!

Harrogate is lovely.

Good luck! We did the Surrey - Yorkshire move 18 months ago and no regrets. It did have its stressful moments admittedly!

NeverGuessWho · 03/06/2023 09:40

Sounds exciting, OP. Following your journey with a mix of envy and admiration. Always loved the idea of moving to another area, and Yorkshire would be my number one county. Good luck with it all.

Tadpolle · 03/06/2023 09:53

Good luck OP and good choice of county!

I'll lend expertise of the area you're looking at and schools around here if you have any Qs.

The house you linked to above is good value for the size I reckon.

ThePurpleOctopus · 03/06/2023 10:24

Agreed with PP above. That's a fair bit of house for that price.

Hope the viewing goes well!

WingBingo · 03/06/2023 11:34

Thank you all so much!

@Tadpolle we have 3 viewings lined up next weekend. The one above plus two more I’ll find.

your expertise is most welcome!

I like the last one best, but I don't like any of them as much as the house you are selling.

MangosteenSoda · 03/06/2023 11:46

The layout looks really workable in the last one, particularly for multigenerational living.

Is that a dog bath in the utility room in Selby?

WingBingo · 03/06/2023 12:08

Ooh I think it is for dogs , that would be very handy!

House no 3 in Steeton has a great layout and space for your needs. Great rail connection to Leeds. However Steeton is a really out in the sticks feeling village area, not urban at all. More of a Bradford outpost than a Leeds one.

If you are keen on that area check out Silsden too (the train station is called "Steeton and Silsden"). If you don't mind being far from big urban centres you'll find a villagey feel in Silsden and good value houses. A lot of new builds going up in Silsden right now. I think the development is called Saxon Dene.

MadEyeMoodysEye · 03/06/2023 16:10

I love your house, I could feel right at home there.

All the ones you're looking at are nice, with the last one I wonder if a bit of jiggery pokery at the top left hand corner of the plan could create an en suite in one of the 2 adjoining rooms for MIL?

I do wonder if you'll feel a bit hemmed in in a semi, after being used to so much land and space? (I'm in a smaller semi than you're considering but I don't know any different.)

Applebeard · 03/06/2023 16:26

@Tadpolle

Main advantage of Steeton over Silsden is that you can walk to the station without having to cross the A629. There's talk of a footbridge or tunnel - but it's years away from ever happening, if it ever does.

WingBingo · 03/06/2023 17:29

It’s DH that’s keen to be north west of Leeds. I prefer the Rothwell district as I could cycle to work on the canal.

I hear what you are saying about the semi. Not sure how this will feel but having less garden to maintain is a big bonus.

Much needed! I hate seeing people crossing the dual carriageway near the station 🙈

Two more offers came in today!

both over asking so the original family have upped their offer

We really liked them so I think we are going to accept.
